Hi I'm Nathan

I am 18. Am planning to serve a mission for this church. And I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I like to play sports and be with friends and family. Basketball and football are my favorite sports and I also love to be outdoors. Fishing is my favorite activity outside. I am attending college currently as a freshman. I have three brothers and one sister and I am the second oldest in my family. I'm also interested in trying new things because as long as I'm with the right people I can have a good time.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I have a testimony that its teachings are true. I want to be happy and the LDS church gives that to me. I don't feel like I am forced to follow their commandments and teachings. I do it because I feel happier and better when I do. I think my life is better with this gospel because I am a better person. I don't think I'm perfect because only our savior is, but I do realize the blessings I receive when I choose the right. I know I am blessed when I do these things because my Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ love me. I know that they are real and I should do what they want to make them happy so I can live with them again when I die. I am so grateful for this knowledge and that is why I'm a Mormon.

How I live my faith

I have grown up in the LDS church and am currently apart of it. I am a current member of my elders quorum and am an active home teacher with my companion. I have served as a deacons quorum president and been apart of quorum presidencies as a teacher and priest. I have been on many activities with the other youth in my ward from camp outs to firesides and doing other activities in uplifting environments. I am currently planning to serve a mission for two years in Riverside, California. I am excited for this opportunity to teach people about my religion and bring them closer to Christ to have that same happiness that I experience.

Who was Joseph Smith?

We believe Joseph Smith to be our first prophet and the founder of the Mormon church. At the age of 14, he wanted to know which church was true and which he should follow. He read James 1:5 which told him to pray about his questions. He prayed and he saw God and his son Jesus Christ. After this, they told him that none of the churches on the earth were true because they didn't have all of the truths and teachings that were on the earth previously. There was also no priesthood authority for baptism and other ordinances our church utilizes. With this authority, God's true church could be brought forth to the world by also translating the Book of Mormon. Joseph Smith translated the Book of Mormon with the help of Christ and our Heavenly Father and that book is a major part of our religion today with the Bible. Show more Show less

What is the Book of Mormon?

The Book of Mormon tells of a people that lived on the American continent prior to Jesus and also during Christ's ministry. The Book of Mormon is another testament of Jesus Christ and goes along with the teachings in the Bible. Mormons also believe the Bible to be the word of God with the Book of Mormon because they coincide with each other. The scriptures tell us what we need to do in this life and this is why the Book of Mormon is so important to us. It was translated from these ancient people to our language in this day and age by Joseph Smith under the authority of God. The Book of Mormon testifies of Christ and many other precepts that our religion is founded on. I believe it to be true because I have read it and prayed about its truthfulness. Some may doubt if it is true but they haven't read it yet and my answer to them is to read it and know for oneself. Show more Show less

Why don’t Mormons drink coffee, tea, or alcohol? What is the Mormon Church’s law of health and proper diet?

God gives us these commandments because he loves us. These substances can be harmful to the body and he gives us our bodies to take care of them. Many people struggle with addictions to these substances and Heavenly Father knows this. I also know that I will be healthier by following the Word of Wisdom and not partaking of these things. He wants me to be healthy so I can live have the opportunity to live life to the fullest. Addictions may not be common in coffee or tea, but I trust in God. He knows better than I do and I will follow his teachings even if they don't make sense. They don't have to make sense to me because I know he loves me and he wants the best for me. Even in John 14:15 it says we need to follow his commandments if we love him and I believe I am doing so by following my church's teachings about this topic. Show more Show less
