Hi I'm Tanner J. Burnside

I'm an Aggie. I'm a writer. I'm a Missionary in the Frozen tundra of Minnesota. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a Sophomore at University and I have taken off the last year for work and two more years to serve as a missionary in the Minneapolis Minnesota mission. I play guitar, cook, act, dance (a little bit), paintball/airsoft, and write stories. I was raised in the church since I was a baby, and I was blessed with the best family I could ask for. They helped me have the best foundation I could for a good and successful life. I love people. Spending time, and having fun with other people; friends, family, perfect strangers, is my favorite thing to do besides watch movies. I've always been VERY curious, and impulsive, and that curiosity has gotten me into some serious trouble more than a few times, but between the support I have gotten from my family, and the teachings I've learned since I was little about God's plan for me, I've learned what is and isn't important in my life, and what I need to be happy.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a Mormon because the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is the only church that answers ALL of my questions. The love of God is ALWAYS felt at church. The Doctrines and Principles all make sense. I have seen how centering on the teachings is the best foundation to build a family And above all I know this church is Christ's Church, because as often as I pray and ask if the Book of Mormon is true the Lord ALWAYS answers through the Holy Ghost that it certainly is. Everything else falls in line after that. If the Book of Mormon is true, then God calls prophets today, and He re-established His church in it's fullness, and it is here in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

How I live my faith

The Church is just part of "how we live our faith." To me it's all about the daily details of our lives. It's in the daily prayer and scripture study. It's the choices we make or how we act when we're with others or alone, that tell who we are. So to me I try and take everything one day at a time, trying to make it better than the day before. And I know through the grace of my savior, over time He's shaping me and molding me and helping me become more like him, and then in turn it is my turn to invite all others to "come and see." for themselves.

What is a “testimony” that Mormons speak of?

Tanner J. Burnside
A testimony is what we receive when we ask with real intent if something is true like the Book of Mormon, and then we get a good feeling inside. That feeling is the Holy Ghost confirming that it is true and the more we exercise that feeling by studying the scriptures more, or praying more the more we feel it and it builds the testimony. For instance I know Joseph Smith is a true prophet and translated the Book of Mormon because I read a little of it and asked God in prayer, and got this feeling of peace. Then as I continued to read and study about Joseph Smith I kept getting that feeling and it kept getting stronger. Now I have devoted two years of my life to going and sharing that testimony with others so that they too can have that feeling of peace. Show more Show less

Do Mormons regard the Bible as Holy Scripture and the word of God?

Tanner J. Burnside
I love the Bible. The New Testament contains some of my absolute favorite scriptures and teachings that I use all the time, but I do not believe that it's Gods only word. God loves us just as much as he loved the people in they Bible, and The Lord continues to speak; therefore more scripture has been given. The Bible is the word of God as given to holy men from the beginning of time, and that process is continuing to happen. Since Joseph Smith, Lord is calling modern prophets, and has brought forth the Book of Mormon, another testament of Jesus Christ, to give us so much more light and knowledge. Show more Show less

What will the Mormon missionaries talk about when they visit my home?

Tanner J. Burnside
We will get to know you, share with you what is different about this church, answer any questions, and invite you to study it out for yourself and ask God if it's true. Feel free to ask any questions, we don't get offended. We love to help everyone see what our church is really about. We're here to share what we know, and invite you to find out for yourself, and we promise, God will help you to know the truth. Show more Show less
