Hi I'm Abe

I'm an EMT/Security Guard, a business owner, a snowmaker and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in a small town in Vermont and currently live in Utah. I enjoy the outdoors, learning, and reading. I've served on a volunteer fire department, a volunteer rescue squad, traveled around the country a fair amount, and lived on the Navajo Indian Reservation. I walked away from the church when I was 19 and was inactive for around seventeen years. During this time of inactivity I tried drugs, alcohol, and women, as a means of finding happiness, yet through it all, I never found true happiness. During this time I would periodically go to church to keep family happy, however my heart was not in it. In addition I was also constantly struggling with depression and wanting to end my life. Why I am a Mormon

In late August/Early September everything came crashing to a head and my life reached rock bottom, I felt that it could get no lower, that I had nothing more to lose and that no one, not even God loved me or wanted me around. So why would anyone care if I was dead, it would answer my question of whether or not their was a God. Yet, all of this humbled me, and helped to open my eyes enough to give religion another chance and see if it could help me. On a Saturday, upon a prompting from the Holy Ghost, I rode the trax down to Temple Square and walked around, not knowing why I was there or what I was even doing there. Up to this time, I had come to hate Christianity, God and the Mormon religion. However, while I had walked away from God, He had not walked away from me. As I was reading the testimony of the three witnesses, a couple of Sister Missionaries approached me. We began a conversation that turned my life around. I told them my story and they asked if they could have my phone number and send me a spiritual text every day. The following day I began attending church again, for the first time in years, because I wanted to be there. None of my family or friends knew I was going back to church, in fact I didn't tell them because I didn't want to fail and let them down. I only knew I was doing what I needed to do for myself. I needed to know if their was a God and if He loved me, if I was even worthy of being loved. A short time later I sat down with my old Bishop and confessed my sins to him. As I did so, I saw only love and compassion in his eyes. His kindness showed me that their was God and that He loved each and everyone of us individually and that He knew each and everyone of us personally. Through his love and support, I was able to turn my life around and am now free from drugs, alcohol and tobacco, and an active member in the church. While I still have my trials, my faith in God and activity in the church, makes them much easier to face.

How I live my faith

When I can I do volunteer work with an organization that helps homeless people.

What is the Atonement of Jesus Christ? Why was it necessary for Jesus Christ to sacrifice His life?

Abe
My thoughts on the Atonement, are that it was the most important event, that has happened, in the history of the world. Adding to this, if we apply the Atonement of Christ, into our lives, we can change, and become a better person. Show more Show less

What do Mormons believe about family?

Abe
I lost my mother when I was 12 years old. Through faith in the Gospel message that families can be together forever, I know that I will see her again. Show more Show less

What is the Book of Mormon?

Abe
The Book of Mormon is another Testament of Christ. It is the greatest book a person can read, and by reading it and abiding by its teachings, a person will grow closer to God, our Heavenly Father. Show more Show less
