Hi I'm Jana

I am an Idaho girl living in Great Britain. I am a mother of five young children. I am a Mormon.

About Me

I was teaching High School English in Idaho when I met the man I knew I wanted to spend my life with, and he whisked me away to Great Britain. We now have five young children and I have just completed a Master's Degree. One of my favourite things to do ... to watch my children dancing to Just Dance. And of course I join in!

Why I am a Mormon

At different times in my life, I have defined myself as a student, a dancer, a basketball and volleyball player, a teacher, a wife, and a mother, an American, and a British Citizen. These roles have changed, but my most important definition of who I am has never changed, and has been the foundation of everything else I have ever done: I am a daughter of God. I was raised in the church, and upon leaving home after high school, I needed to evaluate my own beliefs. Firstly, I recognised that the teachings of the church had made a very positive difference in my life. Based on that alone, I knew I wanted to keep living the teachings of the gospel. After finishing the Book of Mormon one night, I followed the council in Moroni 10:3-5, and I prayed to ask if it was true. The answer immediately came to my mind, "Jana, you know that it is true." But beyond that, I wanted a closer relationship with Jesus Christ. So I prayed, and studied, and searched for ways to come to know Him better, and to understand His reality and what He was to me. There have been many experiences that have strengthened my testimony of Jesus Christ. I know that He is real. That His love for us is beyond anything we can comprehend. And that Jesus Christ is my Saviour.

How I live my faith

As a family, we kneel down together every morning and night to say prayers. I love to hear my children pray, because they pray to Heavenly Father about the little details of the day that are important to them. We try to read from the scriptures every morning. I am a better mother because of my faith. I am a better wife and a happier and more confident person because of my faith. I teach a class once a month to the women at church. Each lesson is taken from the messages of latter day prophets, apostles, and leaders of the Lord's church. It is so wonderful that God speaks to us today and His church is organised in a way that we can receive divine guidance. For example, last Sunday's lesson was taken from a talk found here: https://www.lds.org/general-conference/2013/10/the-key-to-spiritual-protection?lang=eng I also have a role in the church to help people with their family history. I am fascinated by family history and our connections to our past generations.
