Hi I'm John

I'm a husband and father with five fantastic children. I joined the Church when I was 17 years old. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a husband and father; my wife and I have five children, spread across junior and senior school ages - four girls and one boy. I recently graduated after doing a part-time six-year Business Studies degree, it really enhanced my love of learning. I currently work in the recycling & waste management industry, it's a very varied job and no two days are the same. I like to play golf and enjoy the history and traditions of the game.

Why I am a Mormon

I joined the Church when I was 17. At the time I wasn't looking for religion at all. But I remember having the feeling that what the missionaries were teaching me was 'right' - it felt right. I came to know that Jesus Christ is my personal Saviour and that his love influences me and guides and directs me every day. Over the years I have been a member that feeling has grown and so I now know that those teachings are true and that they come from God, and all of those teachings are designed to make me eternally happy - not just for here and now. For example, I know that if I am obedient to God's commandments I can be with my wife and children because we have been married for time and eternity in one of the Church's Temples. This is one of the bedrock teachings of the Church - marriage is not just until death do you part - I love that! I feel have been greatly blessed as I have followed the Church's teachings and I know that my life is better for it. I have close friends and family who are not members but can see the difference the gospel has made in my life.

How I live my faith

Our family do lots of things together. We read scriptures and pray together regularly, as well as attending our local LDS Church every Sunday. Once a week on a Monday evening we set aside some time just to be together and have fun together - we read together, sing and play games. At times we'll help to clean our chapel together as a family. My service in the Church is varied - I help run our local young men's group, which includes teaching lessons in Sunday meetings as well as helping the youth to plan and enjoy weekly activities. This can be anything from ping-pong to football, to games evenings, to helping the young men prepare and serve their mothers a meal for mothers day! It's very much centred around serving and mentoring these young men and helping them to become the best that they can be.
