Hi I'm Stephen Smith

I'm a first degree blackbelt, competitive swimmer, recreational snowboarder, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I've grew up in a family of four older sisters and two great parents. Having "5 mothers" to boss me around has really taught me how to respect women and how to serve others. My father is a great example of a hard worker and has taught me to work hard in any setting, especially when serving others. I've earned my first degree blackbelt which taught me many great life skills like how to endure, work hard, and have great respect for the knowledge of others. During my high school years I've participated in the Cross Country team and the Swim team and was chosen as a recipient for Academic All-State for the Utah diving/swimming team. I have always wanted to serve a mission and I've been saving money for it since I was old enough to do chores around the house and push the mower around and because of the announcement by President Monson in October of 2012, I'm proud to say that I will report to the MTC on June 12, 2013 to serve in the Alpine German-Speaking Mission. I'm excited to serve a mission right out of High School so I can experience teaching and sharing with others what I know to be true.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into the church so I haven't had the experience of others who, when they're converted into the church, have these great conversion stories. I feel though as I have grown up in the church I've received my conversion little by little. As the years go on I'm able to understand more and more about the gospel. I remember when President Gordon B. Hinlkey a few years ago asked the members to read the Book of Mormon before the end of the year. I was so determined to read the entire Book of Mormon by myself and pray to know it is true for myself. It was the 31st of December and I finally finished the Book of Mormon 12 minutes before the new year. I read Moroni's promise (Moroni 10:3-5) and I prayed about it and from that time on I have known for myself that the Book of Mormon is the word of God and that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the restored church of Jesus Christ. It's because of my personal conversion that I'm a Mormon.

How I live my faith

I've served in several positions in my quorums as secretary, counselor, and president. I've had the opportunity to serve my fellow scouts as I have served as Senior Patrol Leader in my troop. While being a leader I have been able to learn how to organize activities and help others with any problems that they might be having. I was very grateful to have the opportunity of being the Swim Team Captain this past year where I was able to cheer on my fellow teammates and give them advice on how they can improve their swimming to be the best they can be. I have had the opportunity to serve in a council over all the youth in my stake which has helped me to meet new people, plan activities that will benefit our youth specifically, and to work with others to make the activities the most effective they can be.
