Hi I'm Lynette

I'm from Oregon. I'm a student and now a missionary. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up towards the end of a large family which I loved! I have spent 2 years studying Business at Brigham Young University and I am currently serving as a missionary in Columbia, South Carolina waiting for a visa to then serve in Curitiba, Brazil. I love to play sports, especially basketball and ultimate frisbee and love to do anything outdoors. Last Summer I worked on the north rim of the Grand Canyon so I could do lots of hiking, rock climbing, mountain biking, etc. and enjoy God's beautiful creations. I believe this beautiful earth is one way God shows His love for us. I also love to learn. I have only been at a university for 2 years but I love learning about everything, especially from God's word. We are so blessed to have both the ancient record of the prophets in Jerusalem through the Bible and a record of the ancient prophets in the Americas through the Book of Mormon. And even today through the restored gospel we have a living prophet who continues to receive revelation for the world!

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints so I guess initially you could say I went to that church because my parents did, however when I got older I had to decide for myself. In school I was often asked questions about my church so I was fairly young when I started to wonder whether Joseph Smith was a prophet, if the Book of Mormon really was the word of God and if their really is a prophet again today. We invite each member of the church to find this out for themselves and I found that through studying God's word and asking Him myself. I first received a witness that God did exist and that He did care about me. As I would pray to Him in times of distress I felt His love and I began to discover what it meant to feel the spirit. On several occassion I received an overwhelming feeling that my involvement in this church was good and it was bringing me closer to God. As I studied the Book of Mormon I received a witness that not only was it a book with good advice to help me, but it was the word of God. As I have acted in faith upon those things I do know to be true, I have continually found that the teachings of God's restored church are true and can bring so much more happiness to my life. Happiness not only in this life, but through eternity. I know that God loves his children and has provided a way for us to come back to Him and find true happiness that is so much greater than what the world has to offer us.

How I live my faith

I think the best way to live my faith is by helping others and serving them just as we know Christ did when he came to the earth, so I love helping and serving others. Throughout my life I've had many opportunities to serve in schools, communities and my church. When I was baptized I committed to take upon myself the name of Christ and one way I do that is through service. My favorite assignment that each adult female in our church participates in is what we call visiting teaching. At least once a month I check up on a few other women in our church group and check on how they are doing, offer ways I can serve them, and share uplifting messages with them. I love getting to know people and try to help them. I am serving as a missionary for my church because it gives me the opportunity to share what has brought the most joy to my life and what I know can bring happiness to those who will accept our invitation to come unto Christ. As a missionary I am privileged to spend 24/7 acting as a representative of Christ by focusing on serving others and helping them come closer to our Savior.
