Hi I'm Christine

I grew up in Singapore. I'm a Masters student living in London. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am currently studying for my Masters in London, with a specialisation in children and the law. When I was a law undergraduate my best subjects always related to areas of business law and I intended to become a commercial lawyer with a firm in Singapore when I graduated. However, God had other plans for me and part of that plan resulted in me moving to London to study for my Masters. I still have no idea where He is taking me, but I'm looking forward to finding out!

Why I am a Mormon

My parents were taught and baptised by missionaries in different countries before they were married and I was born into the church. I gained a testimony of the church for myself when I was 14 after praying to know if the Book of Mormon and the Holy Bible were true. I started a serious study of the Book of Mormon and developed a great thirst to continue reading, which I did until I finished the entire Book of Mormon. It was a different thirst from the kind you get when reading a book with an interesting storyline, which makes you want to flip to the next page even before you've devoured the first - this thirst was one of awe and amazement at the lessons contained in the stories which unfolded in the Book of Mormon, and desire to continue reading because of the peaceful way I felt when I read it. This peace was particularly evident to me as my family was going through a difficult time then. The Book of Mormon also inspired me to want to be a better person. Through fasting and prayer, I learned for myself that it was true through the feelings I felt when I read it and how it answered questions that I had. I also study the Bible alongside the Book of Mormon and have a testimony that it is true. As I continue to re-read the Book of Mormon and Bible today, I reaffirm my testimony that they are books inspired by God and proof that God speaks to men and women today, if they desire to find Him. If you haven't read the Book of Mormon or the Bible yet, I'm excited for you!

How I live my faith

I believe that among all the sacrifices my parents have made for me, their greatest gift is that they have introduced me to the Gospel. I am blessed with friends, family and a boyfriend who support me in living Gospel principles. I love my Saviour Jesus Christ and try to be better than I would ordinarily be without His example to follow. I don't always succeed, but my Saviour's example gives me something to aim for! I currently serve as the Service chairperson in my Stake (a congregation covering most of London). This means I organise community service projects for a congregation of people in my age group several times a year. I love my calling because it brings together my interest and my talent - meeting, serving people and event organisation. While I'm used to organising much larger events outside the church context, serving in church brings an even greater level of fulfilment because I can sense God's hand in the success of these events. Those familiar with event organisation know it is necessary to take account of unexpected occurrences and when time is tight sometimes it is not possible to do this - but somehow God makes up the difference and makes things work when I trust that He is in control.
