Hi I'm Kurt

I always had a feeling there was more to life. The Book of Mormon filled that gap. I'm a Mormon and I know why I'm here.

About Me

I grew up in North-East England, did quite well at school and went to University in Sheffield to study Chemical Engineering. During my final years at University my girlfriend introduced me to the Gospel. After months of teaching from the missionaries I finally made the decision to be baptised. I got married in the summer before I started my final year of university and I'm now living back in the North-East working in an exciting company recently set up by another church member. I am also currently studying part-time for a PhD. My main hobbies are travelling (of which me and my wife try to do a lot) and gaming (of which my wife tries to get me not to do at all)

Why I am a Mormon

When I was younger I had no religious affiliation, I did however attend a Catholic primary school and as part of that had to attend mass occasionally. I never felt comfortable with the method of Catholic worship and the teachings didn't always make sense to me but I always felt like there must be some greater power or meaning to life. As I grew up and started university it became clear that I had a scientific mind and logic took precedence over most of the decisions I made. When the missionaries started teaching me this presented a problem as I struggled to gain a testimony of the Gospel. I had tried to abandon logic expecting a great personal confirmation of the truth as I prayed, but it didn't happen. What eventually convinced me to get baptised was a scripture (D&C 46:13-14) and a following testimony meeting. I realised at the testimony meeting that I knew by the spirit that what the people were saying was true and that they weren't just spouting beliefs, they knew the Gospel was true. Once I realised this I went back to my logical thinking and couldn't find anything in the teachings that didn't make sense. This is the true Gospel of Jesus Christ, it makes sense and the blessings that come from living the principles contained it it are real. This is why I'm a Mormon.

How I live my faith

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is organised as the Saviour has taught through the scriptures. As a priesthood holder within the church I have responsibilities to visit families on a regular basis to teach and counsel them and to help them through difficulties. This opportunity has enabled me to build strong relationships with those I visit and has introduced me to great people with great life experience who I am able to learn from and grow with. I have a calling in the church which requires me to visit other meetinghouses within our area to speak to them and share thoughts and ideas on how the work of the saviour can be pushed forward in their area. The main focus of the Gospel of Christ is to bring people back to him. I have been given so many opportunities to work with great people both in and out of the church that I have no doubt that the Gospel is true.
