Hi I'm Cindy Jean Herrera

I live in sunny Murrieta, California. I love Heavenly Father, the Gospel, and helping others. I'm a Mormon ballerina. :D

About Me

I have been called to serve as a missionary in Poland! What a tremendous blessing to be of service to my brothers and sisters for 18 months! My family is Catholic and I converted to Judaism when I was 16. At age 22, I joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I work as a TA for the geology department at my school. Geology is a most amazing science! I love getting to meet new people often and it's truly a blessing to provide help when the students are having trouble with the material. Joining the Church has given me the opportunity to better serve others, and nothing (as of now) has come close to the love and joy that comes from being of service!

Why I am a Mormon

It was September 2012 when I was walking down my street to buy ice cream, and Elders Alo and Farnsworth were about to pass by when they suddenly stopped to chat. They introduced themselves and told me a little bit about the Church. At first, I was skeptical because I had heard some things about what Mormons believed. When the missionaries asked for a lesson, I thought about it and received a prompting like "Just give them a chance". I'm so glad I did! I have personally encountered abuse within my own family. I know Heavenly Father puts us in these situations to strengthen us and to have us figure out how eternal family members should act towards each other. I have found solace within the Gospel and I finally understand the power of the Atonement and how faith in Our Heavenly Father and His Beloved Son, Jesus Christ can help us forgive those who have caused us harm. I testify that by reading the Book of Mormon, we can better understand the reason we're here. I love Heavenly Father and am grateful for the Plan of Salvation. I believe in our prophets and their guidance, and I know that they are just as real as the prophets of biblical times. I am grateful to Joseph Smith for giving us the Restored Gospel, for without it, I'm sure we would have a much harder time trying to understand and overcome our trials. Without our trials, we would not be able to understand the depth and power of Heavenly Father's love. So when the missionaries come over to talk to you, try not to tell them to get lost. They're just like you and me. Besides, they only want to share! Feel free to join us for Sacrament Meeting on Sundays, I guarantee you'll love it! :D

How I live my faith

Right now, I'm serving as a branch missionary, young single adult representative for my home ward, and visiting teaching supervisor for the YSA sisters in my home ward. I feel so blessed to be able to be of better help to these wonderful sisters! My very first calling was as the chorister for the Young Single Adult branch in my community. Every Sunday is a new experience! I think that calling is the most fun way to learn the hymns, too. The YSA branch is a great place to make new friends who hold higher standards, and it's quite refreshing to be at events knowing that you'll be safe. We Mormons know how to have fun, and we don't need drugs or alcohol to do so. By living the Word of Wisdom, we go through our lives and trials without the need to self-medicate. I have seen firsthand the destruction that comes from the chains of such substances. I know that Heavenly Father will never give us a trial that we would be unable to overcome, and we need only turn to Him if we are in trouble. Our Heavenly Father loves us - He will never lead us astray. I know that the Book of Mormon is true because its teachings have the potential to improve the lives of others if they give it a chance. I believe in the counsel of the prophets. I know this Church is true because its teachings are correct. I am thankful for our many trials, for they strengthen us. I bear my testimony in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

How can we stop the spread and influence of pornography?

Cindy Jean Herrera
We can begin with ourselves and keep our minds and bodies pure so that others may see the blessings that come from our decisions. We can then help those who are struggling to overcome the plague of pornography by encouraging them to talk to their bishop; if they have fallen from the path or are not of our faith, we can ask them to read their Scriptures, come to Church with us, and talk to their religious leaders. I know that by at least reading the Scriptures daily, we will receive guidance from Our Heavenly Father, and He will help us with whatever difficulty we have. Show more Show less
