Hi I'm Richard

I never stop singing. I eat lots of cake. I'm a Mormon and I love my life.

About Me

I'm 22 years old, I study biology at one of the UK's best science universities. It's a really tough education and I end up studying a lot, but I love the material and I love learning, so it's worth it. I like making noise whether it's singing, playing the piano, French horn, recorder, ukulele, or anything I can find. I have a severe weakness for cake. I revel in things that make me happy. I like games and having fun. People say that they never see me without a smile on my face. I love grass. It's the little things.

Why I am a Mormon

I was brought up in this faith - going to church, reading scripture, praying regularly. I learned the principles and the doctrines of the gospel and applied them. From this foundation I have been able to see God's hand working in my life, and this is basically why I am a Mormon. I feel comfort, direction and support from him through the Holy Ghost. I see a very clear correlation between my obedience to God's commandments and my happiness. When I pray regularly I am happier. When I read the scriptures daily I am happier. I am calmer and can deal with the problems of life in a world where there is so much sadness. I find light and fulfilment and a great desire to be engulfed in both. As a missionary in London I developed an understanding of the atonement and a real relationship with Christ. When I was in my darkest hour, when life was harder than I could take, when I felt there was no point and I wanted to give up I felt his love and I felt him lift me. Since then I have been able to follow him with more faith and be the recipient of things that I consider miraculous. I feel strongly that God wants me to be a part of this faith. While serving a mission I was able to see God lead others into this faith and I was able to experience first hand the difference it made to their lives. There is a very real power here, and it is a power for good and changes people's lives for the better. I know that God is there, that he cares, and that he has a plan for us. When we work with God and when he works with us life becomes rich and fantastic. I need this in my life. It makes everything better. God just wants us to be happy and that is what the gospel is for.

How I live my faith

My faith affects every part of my life. Because of the light and happiness I feel, my attitude to life is naturally positive. Because Christ is the focus of my life I want to and try to emulate him. I try my hardest to be a good person, to rise above my natural tendencies to be selfish. I try to serve those around me, to smile more, to be a good student, to be a good brother, a good son, a good friend. I try to treat every person I see with respect and love - especially when they are different from me or they disagree with me. I try to be forgiving, to be patient, to be kind, to be generous. It's often hard and I'm not perfect and make mistakes, but I think I'm improving.
