Hi I'm Shalee

I am currently serving an LDS mission in the Philippines San Pablo Mission, I am a below-the-knee amputee, and I´m a Mormon!

About Me

I am currently serving a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Philippines. Being a missionary is the greatest thing ever! I am also a below-the-knee amputee. I was born with fibular hemimilia and had my foot amputated when I was 14 months old. I absolutely love being an amputee because it makes me unique and gives me a little extra determination to accomplish anything I want to do just to prove that I can. I love soccer and volleyball. I'm addicted to shopping and ice cream. I am an avid journal writer. I love spending time with my crazy friends and family. I firmly believe that everything happens for a reason and it will always work out. Maybe not the way you want it to, but the way it's supposed to. I know it has for me.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in a family where both my parents were members, but neither of them were active. From the time I was 5 years old I had friends and family members that would take me to church with them and I absolutely loved the feeling there. My parents divorced when I was in 4th grade and my mom began taking us to church. I loved everything I learned about the church, but I especially loved that I could pray. My parents divorce was a tough time for me and knowing that my Heavenly Father was there to hear my prayers and bring peace to my soul was a great blessing. My testimony continued to grow and be strengthened through the amazing Young Women's program. The gospel of Jesus Christ has helped me through the rough spots life throws at you. I know that Christ lives and that He atoned for my sins. He knows my pains, my afflictions, my infirmities, and He knows how to comfort me perfectly. I know that prayer works. Heavenly Father hears you and he answers you. He loves you. More than you will ever know. I know that the Book of Mormon is truly the word of God. I've read it and I know. That's why I'm a Mormon.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by putting my trust in God. I am currently serving a full time mission. I made the choice to leave my friends and family for 18 months to serve and teach the people of the Philippines. I am working on learning Tagalog. It isn't going to be easy but I just have to have faith that Heavenly Father will help me and turn my weaknesses into strengths. I have no doubt that I will be able to do all things through my Savior. I am so excited to share the happiness the gospel brings to me with these wonderful people Heavenly Father would have me serve!
