Hi I'm Derek

Hi I'm Derek I' m a 50 year old proud father of three teenagers , I'm married to Lisa and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a 50 year old father of three teenagers am married to Lisa and I am a Mormon. I have two grandsons one just born this year(2013) & the other is 3yrs. Been a fitness fanatic all my adult life but due a mysterious brain condition my physical health unfortunately prevents me from any strenuous exercise; so I've taken to writing Poetry which is becoming an obsession of mine. I love the classics: Keats, Wordsworth , Browning, Burns and the like. Don't knock it till you've tried it!!

Why I am a Mormon

At the age of 18 I met two Mormon missionaries who asked me to listen to what they had to say about God and the after-life . I seen no harm in listening to their beliefs and became intrigued by what they had to say. I agreed to pray to find out if the things they taught me were true , which was awkward at first as I had no real religious opinions before . In time I came to a realisation that these things were true through what i could only describe as peacefull feelings in my heart and things that made perfect sense in my mind . I made a commitment to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in 1981 and in retrospect can see no better way to have lived my life . I have many honest , loving , caring friends who have helped me through some hard times and have done my best to help others to the best of my ability . I try to live and bring my family up in as Christlike a manner as possible , which brings peace and happiness to our home.

How I live my faith

As a family we pray together , attend church on Sundays and enjoy shorts breaks away from home when we can . Our two daughters take part in scripture study classes each day before school with other youth their age which they seem to enjoy as a positive start to their day . Lisa and I meet with children ages 8 to 11 taking part in fun activities which help them to develop a faith and belief in god. For example, on Valentines day we prepared small gifts with a brief message which we gave to some of the widows and elderly members of our congregation . The recipients of these small parcels shed a few tears of joy at the kindness of these caring children .
