Hi I'm Sam

I come from West Valley City, Utah. I love to sing, act, and learn more than almost anything. I'm a Mormon!

About Me

I grew up as the third of six children, with mostly sisters, and my family is definitely my favourite thing in the whole universe. Next to family and friends, though, some of my greatest joy comes from music. I've been heavily involved in choirs and musical theatre since my early teens, and I've been singing in the shower for some years, too. I also sort-of play the piano and flute. I'm currently studying psychology at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, trying to figure out exactly what it is I want to do with the rest of my life. Hopefully someday soon I'll get that issue sorted, but in the meantime I'll just continue to learn, taking time, of course, to enjoy my other favourite things: family, friends, music, board games, google, hiking, big words (my favourite is "juxtaposition"), the colour green, and fresh fruit.

Why I am a Mormon

I know that I am a child of God, the Eternal Father. I know that Jesus Christ is his beloved Son, the Redeemer of the world! I know that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is true. Joseph Smith was a prophet, and Thomas S. Monson, who leads the church today, is a living messenger of my loving God! I also know that all of this sounds pretty rote. But that's just because it actually is that simple! I've seriously prayed to know for myself that this is true, and God answered my prayers. I felt in every part of my mind and heart (and spine and toes and eyebrows and everything) that I have always known this was true. I felt safe and intelligent and strong and clean and everything else that's good. I still feel that every day when I do the things I know to be right. I find the greatest happiness in the universe when I follow Jesus Christ! I am kept safe from so much of the negatives around me, and I am so grateful that my Heavenly Father has given me the opportunity to know all this truth! I love being a Mormon!

How I live my faith

Growing up in a strong Latter Day Saint family and community, I've always been involved in the "Mormon" church. The highlight of my Christian life (so far) was my full-time LDS mission. For two years, I served all around Scotland and Ireland, sharing with others the things I know about my Saviour, Jesus Christ, and about his restored gospel. I returned home in July 2014, and although I'm no longer a full-time missionary, I still think it's important to share my beliefs with others. I have also served in many other ways throughout my time in the church, helping with the music, leading groups of youth, organizing activities, indexing records to help people with family history research, and more. I think the most important thing, though, is to try every day to become more like Jesus Christ and love others as He did. Every day (every moment, really) I know that God loves me. I love him, and I do my best every day (I'm working on the "every moment" bit) to live that love.
