Hi I'm Maria

I am a pianist and music teacher. I'm a young mom who loves to run (pushing a jogger)! I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a young mom who loves people. I'm married to my High School crush and still so much in love after 7 years. We have three beautiful children: two busy boys and a baby girl. I'm passionate about Classical piano music and music in general. I have a bachelor degree in Piano Performance and love to express myself through music. I've been teaching piano since I was 16 and I love it. I ran Cross Country in High School and I love to keep it up: it's an emotional release, it's a way to stay healthy, and it's free! I've done a couple half-marathons but mostly do short enough distances that my little kids in my Chariot stroller still enjoy going with me.

Why I am a Mormon

I believe faith is a choice. It's not something that just happens to you. Life will challenge your faith and I have found that when I choose to act on what I believe, my faith gets stronger. Having faith in Christ to me means doing what he's asked me to do. I read about it in the scriptures and then try to do it. That really strengthens my faith and my relationship with Him. That's why I'm a Mormon. Because I believe in Christ and I know He loves me. Some of my most sacred moments in this life have been times when I have prayed to ask God if He loves me. I have felt an overpowering warmth immediately come over me and confirm to my heart that He knows and loves me. I've had that same feeling when I have read and prayed about the Book of Mormon. The Spirit of God has spoken to my heart that it is true. Every time I read it I feel Him. Every time I hear the prophet speak, I feel Him. Another reason why I am a Mormon is because it gives me so much peace and direction and purpose in my life. I love being able to go to His teachings to find answers to my questions. He blesses me when I keep His commandments. He helps me to see and be a part of the good in this world. The Gospel gives me a hope for the life to come. It gives me meaning in working toward something, toward being like Him and seeing Him again. It makes the trials of this life have purpose and gives me strength to handle them. I have come to know my Savior through being a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

How I live my faith

As a music fanatic I often get the chance to use music to serve in my church. I currently conduct our ward choir and we rehearse every Sunday. When I was 11 I started accompanying my ward choir on the piano and since then have played the organ for Sunday meetings and led a children's choir. The children's choir was one of my favorites! Children are so fun and eager to learn and participate. They sing with their hearts! I love participating in the choirs because I feel that music reaches right down into the soul more quickly than anything else. It can open up a heart to feel the truth of a message spoken in the words. I have felt my Savior close to me and my belief in Him strengthen as I sing of Him. Being a member of the Church motivates me to try to become like Christ. I try to do this in all my interactions with people. I feel Him help me as I pray for opportunities to serve people. There's a real satisfying sense of His approval when I act on those feelings He gives me to help others. I'm assigned to visit two other women in our ward each month. It is teaching me to look outside of myself and promote good in small ways in the world. Everyone needs a friend. I'm typically more comfortable being more introverted but I have found a lot of joy reaching out and trying to truly help someone. It's helped me feel and see the good in the world and the good in other people when so much in the world looks dark.
