Hi I'm Shantel

I grew up in Houston, TX. I am a student a BYU studying Physiology and Developmental Biology. And I am a Mormon.

About Me

I am 20 years old and a college student. My favorite things to do are dance, hike, watch movies, shop, go out for dessert with my friends, and read. I have been interested in the medical field for as long as I can remember. I hope do be a physician assistant one day. My favorite thing about being a college student is getting to learn about anything and everything. Not just the things you learn at school but also things you learn about other people and yourself by being on your own. My favorite sport is football. Football is huge in Texas and I have lived there for 19 years of my life. It's just so fun to watch. I get really into NFL teams. I also love to collect old vintage records. My most prized record is The Beatles, Abbey Road. I guess I just have a lot of random interests.

Why I am a Mormon

I love the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I know for a fact that it is the true church on the earth today. I have read and studied the Book of Mormon and the Bible and I know they are true scriptures. By studying them I know I can draw closer to God and Jesus Christ. The older I get and the more I study the scriptures I come to know even more that this church is true. It just makes sense. Also I have prayed about it and I received conformation that this is true. I am happiest when I am living the way I am supposed to as a Mormon. By following the principles and teachings of this gospel and just striving to be a better person, I am able to have the Holy Ghost with me always to lead and direct me and also comfort me. When I am not doing the right things the Holy Ghost is not with me I feel like something is off. I just don't feel happy. This gospel brings be so much joy and peace and I cannot image a life without it. I am grateful everyday for everything I know because I am a Mormon. For example I know that I am a Child of God and He loves me. I know Christ has suffered my sins and afflictions and so He knows what I am going through. I know my family can live together forever. I bear my testimony of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in the name of my savior, Jesus Christ, Amen.

How I live my faith

I absolutely love going to church each week. In my college student ward I am a family home evening (FHE) leader. So every Monday night I plan an activity for me and a group of other students in my ward to do. It is so fun! It's a great way to meet other people. Being close to your family and other people in your ward is really important in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. My family holds FHE every week and I love being apart of it when I am home. It is so great to talk about gospel principles with my family and do fun things with them at least once a week. Another way I live my faith is through prayer. I love knowing that I can communicate with my Father in Heaven anytime I want or need to. I pray at least three times a day just to thank Him for all I have or to ask Him to bless other people in my life. I know He loves me and always answers my prayers. Through going to church every week too I am able learn more about my Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ.
