Hi I'm Cory

I live in Utah, am passionate about improving K-12 public education, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I work as a technology and social studies specialist for a public school district and I love my job. Our kids are starting to spread out and start families of their own, so my wife and I cherish the occasional visits from them and are awaiting the first grandchildren. In my spare time I love to work with wood - creative boxes are my favorite thing to make.

Why I am a Mormon

I come from a family with LDS ancestors since 1830. I was blessed to be raised in the church and to have the opportunity to serve a mission to Austria many years ago. Experiences from my youth and as I have gotten older have strengthened my commitment to the gospel and to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I haven't always done as I should, but I am trying to improve and to be the best I can. I enjoy church, I love going to the Temple, I relish reading the scriptures with my kids when they can. I know that following the plan of salvation that includes the Savior's atonement makes me happy.

How I live my faith

I have enjoyed a wide variety of callings or assignments in my local ward. At this point I am teaching a Sunday School class for adults. I also work with the Boy Scouts in my ward as they get close to their Eagle Scout rank. Participating in ward activities allows me to rub shoulders with those who buoy me up and allows me to share with them my love for the Savior.

How are the activities of the Mormon missionaries funded?

Missionaries who serve when they are young, generally between 18 and 24 or so years old, generally spend two years on a full-time mission. They are encouraged to save money when they are young and support themselves as much as possible. However, most young people are supported by their parents or other relatives. My daughter, who is planning to start a mission later this year, has been paying for her own living and college expenses and I expect to help her meet expenses while she serves the Lord full time. We also have the opportunity to help other missionaries from our ward or stake who may not have financial support otherwise. Older missionary couples generally pay their own expenses as well. There are also other opportunities for missionary service. Show more Show less
