Hi I'm Chrissy

I love singing and I love helping people find their own voice. I'm a musician, I'm a teacher and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I love music, food and anything else beautiful in this world. I just graduated college with one degree in vocal performance and the other in music education and am now preparing to serve a full-time mission to share the gospel of Jesus Christ. While I'm preparing, I'm studying jazz voice, teaching piano to little kids, exploring restaurants, books, cities, etc. and studying the scriptures. My future is a little unpredictable right now (I don't know what my mission is going to be like... do you?) but I've chosen to trust the Lord and enjoy every minute of life by filling it with real love and beauty.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up Mormon. My family raised me to say my prayers and go to church. When I was 13 though I started getting a lot of slack for the choices I was making. My friends couldn't understand why I wouldn't swear, kiss boys or say mean things about people even when I wasn't at home! I was a weird enough kid already, I sang even while my teachers were teaching and my voice DID NOT sound good back then, so I didn't want to make my social life even harder by following the standards of my church if I didn't have to. I decided to study the scriptures and pray to God to find out if the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints was teaching the truth. I received beautiful answers to my prayers, even as a 13 and 14 year old, and I continue to receive confirmation of the truth of the gospel whenever I pray. (So my social life got a little harder, but it led me to amazing friendships with people who want me to follow my heart.) Through my faith in Jesus Christ and his Atonement, I've become the loving, honest, inquisitive and determined person I am today. The gospel of Jesus Christ pushes me to use my abilities to love everyone around me!

How I live my faith

I'm a teacher at home and a teacher at church. Every few weeks I teach a sunday school lesson from one of our manuals. On the weeks I teach at church, I get to study the lesson in-depth and communicate with Heavenly Father to find out what he wants me and the individuals I'm teaching to get out of the lesson. While I write my lesson plan, I listen for spiritual guidance for which parts of the lesson to emphasize. I am always reminded that Heavenly Father IS our father and knows each of our needs individually! What a blessing! I'm also a part of committee that plans an annual food drive. We try and find ways to help our community come together to work towards the common goal of feeding the hungry. I think that is exactly what Heavenly Father wants to see us doing, working together to care for the human family.

What are some things that tell you there is a God?

One of my favorite quotes is by Albert Einstein where he says, "There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle." I feel the same way as I look at the intricacies of this beautiful world. I love that the closer you look at something the more complicated and beautifully organized it gets. The functioning of our bodies, the growth of plants, the sound of music, all of these things show me that there is a God, a Supreme Creator who wants us to enjoy life. When I come across the ugly things of this world like hate and disease, my heart hurts but I know that suffering is a part of this world so we can become stronger, rely upon the Lord, and choose to help the people around us.
