Hi I'm Niall

I'm from Ireland but am living in the south east of England. I work as a town planner and am a Mormon

About Me

My wife and I live in a small town near London. The great thing about where we live is that we are surrounded by beautiful countryside and open space, but all the exciting things to do in London are just down the road. A big part of my job is to make sure that new homes, commercial development and infrastructure are protected from flooding and don't have a negative impact on the environment. I really enjoy it, although it can be a challenge in such a built up area and in a country where it rains a lot! I love travelling, especially when I have the opportunity to get to know a new place a bit better than a week's holiday normally allows. I've been really lucky to live in 4 different countries (so far!) and love the feeling of becoming a local in a place I'm not from. That said, I love Ireland and plan on returning there at some point in the future.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born and raised as a Mormon, and all of my immediate family are active members of the church. However, my decision to live my life in accordance with the gospel of Jesus Christ is very much a personal one, and not based on any family pressure or expectation. I know for myself that it is true and real, and I know that my family would love and support me whatever path I chose. The doctrines of this church provide genuine answers to life's awkward questions. As well as that, the church always emphasises and encourages questioning, learning, and finding out for yourself - so you don't have to take anyone else's word for it. I can honestly say that I have felt God's love in my life, through thick and thin, and I know that He is there.

How I live my faith

I attend the local Mormon congregation every Sunday and try to get involved in what's going on. I play the piano, so I often get asked to play the hymns on Sunday. At the moment, my main responsibility at church is to help co-ordinate the missionary work in our area. We have 2 young missionaries that have been assigned to our congregation, and I try to help them out where I can. A big part of our faith is taking care of one another. We visit each other's homes regularly to make sure that when trials come, we can lend a hand or give moral support. I have respect for any people (religious or otherwise) who live by good principles and strive to make the world a better place. I think it's really important be a Christian 7 days a week, and not just on Sundays. Of course that is easier said than done!
