Hi I'm Natalie

I am a college student who studies art. I love to dance, cook, play music, and be outside. But my greatest joy is being a Mormon!

About Me

I grew up moving around, but spent most of my time in Park City, Utah. My favorite thing in the whole world is to create, and to laugh (better yet make other people laugh). I truly believe that happiness is a choice. However, I find it more easily accessible when I ski, dance, listen to music, play the piano, hike, cook, read John Steinbeck, draw, attend a great lecture at school, go to museums, travel, make new friends, serve others, and spend time with my family.

Why I am a Mormon

I was once rather apathetic towards the church and my life was a series of poor choices leading me towards an empty life. At the time, I didn't think I wanted anything. But after moving to a new town as a teenager, I felt abandoned and lonely as I had left all my friends and both my siblings moved away to serve missions for the church. During this rather difficult and rather lonely period, I realized something was missing... and for a time I was able to fill that hole in my life with art. Still, my lifestyle was not synonymous with the gospel which I was surrounded by which left me feeling uneasy. I decided that I needed to figure out just what I believed in and didn't believe in once and for all. I didn't want to turn my back on something I did not even understand, so I decided to study the scriptures seeing as they are the basis for the Church. As I read a verse of the Book of Mormon each day, my life began to feel so full of light, happiness, and love. Any burdens in my life became easier to bare, my charity increased, and I felt a joy and peace that seemed to be a fullness of what I had once felt only on occasion. I then chose to live the gospel because it made me so happy. I believe we all have an inherent knowledge of goodness and truth in this life. So now I don't live it because it is the means to an end (like happiness), but because I recognize and believe it to be truth.

How I live my faith

I try to live my faith through each moment of every day. Because of Christ's sacrifice I have the great gift of will. So wether it be in that I do something good or mess up, I am able to either glorify God or accept Christ's atonement and become a better person because of it. I live to my full potential, so I work hard, try to stand up for people and have charity in my thoughts and actions, and make sure to express gratitude inwardly and outwardly for all the blessings I have been given. I find that because my life is so interwoven with creating art on a regular basis, I am able bring my faith into that area as well. It may be through a symbol or concept that is only clear to me, but my hope is that the viewer can be touched in some way because of it, and will walk away a little more uplifted or thoughtful than before. I also live my faith by keeping the commandments; even when doing so has not seemed like the easiest or most fun path. Luckily, it turns out that it is actually the funnest ways to live life. Nothing brings me greater joy than living the gospel!
