Hi I'm Billy Casper

I'm a professional golfer. I won 51 tournaments on the PGA Tour. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

My life has been a game — the game of golf. I started playing when I was four years old and didn't stop until I'd won 51 tournaments on the PGA Tour, the seventh highest total of all time. The highlights of those wins were two U.S. Opens and a Masters green jacket. Others, of course, have won national championships and the Masters, but I did something rather unique along the way. At the height of my career I joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. On New Years Day 1966 I was baptized along with my wife, Shirley, and two of our children who were of baptismal age. My membership in the church has factored into everything that has transpired in my life since. All eleven of our children — five are adopted — were baptized into the church and it remains the center of our life.

Why I am a Mormon

In the beginning, I joined the Church because of its impressive youth programs and because my wife, Shirley, was truly converted. Only later did my conversion occur and with it the realization of why I'm here, which is to love my fellow man and touch lives in a positive way wherever and whenever possible. It is the gospel's eternal perspective that gives my life security and meaning, and why I am so eager to share that message with others.

How I live my faith

Very early on in my activity as a Mormon I was called to be a Seventy and told I would be a missionary and ambassador for the Lord. I have spent my life trying to be true to that call, an at-large missionary to the world. The gospel is my most precious possession and wherever I go I look for opportunities to touch people's lives with its eternal message.
