Hi I'm Jackie

I'm an engineering lecturer, I love the outdoors, but primarily I'm a mother to 3 very lively children and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

My hero growing up was my Dad, if my Mum wanted to find me she only had to look for my Dad and there I was. He nurtured my curiosity in how things worked. When it came to career options an engineering apprenticeship was discussed and I was very excited to be working in an engineering environment where I could make things and use big machines. I felt I was following in my Grandad's footsteps who was also a mechanical engineer. I am married to my childhood sweetheart and we have 3 very lively children. When I fell pregnant for my first child we decided that the most important job I could ever do in this world is be at home and nurture our child and then children. This is the most rewarding experience life can ever offer me. As a family the happiest we can be is when we are in the wilderness. We love to rock climb and the local coast line provides Heavenly Fathers biggest playground. To sit at the top of a climb after working hard to get there is so amazing and I feel so close to my Savior looking over what he has created for us all.

Why I am a Mormon

My parents joined the church when I was 7 years old, so I grew up through the church youth programme. I loved the church, I loved the friends that I had and I loved the youth programme. My church life was so much happier than my school life. It was somewhere I could be myself and be accepted for this. However just because my parents were Mormons and I had a happy church life did not mean I knew it was true. I had to take the time to find this out for myself. I did this by studying the Book of Mormon and then sincerely asking my Heavenly Father if it was true. I did not get a bolt of lightening telling me it was true, but as I continued to study them daily a peaceful feeling entered my heart and I could not deny the truthfulness of the book. I know that the Book of Mormon is the word of God and is another testament of Jesus Christ. Jesus is my Savior and redeemer and the only perfect person who has walked this earth. I am so thankful for his atoning sacrifice, that he loved me enough to suffer the anguish of Gethsemane and the pain of the crucifixion. He did this though so that if I truly repent of my wrong doings and turn to him he will make up the difference and help me return to Heavenly Father. I love him so much. This is why I try to be the best person I can everyday of my life.

How I live my faith

My faith is not just going to church on a Sunday. It is a constant part of my life from the moment I wake up in the morning to one of the last things I do before I close my eyes at night. My husband and I are trying to bring up righteous children who love the Lord and all that he has blessed us with. In order for this to happen I have to be an example by being obedient to the commandments, fulfilling my duties at church, work and home honourably and helping them to come to know the saviour and the love he provides us in our lives. I work with the youth at church and this brings me great happiness as they are the chosen generation and are amazing people. We do not fail to have lots of fun on our youth nights whether it is making bracelets, playing sport or serving others.
