Hi I'm Paula Barker

I am a daughter of God, a grandmother, a missionary, a Mormon!

About Me

I am a daughter of God and so happy to be on earth to experience mortality. I was born in Utah, but lived in California, Idaho, Texas, France, and South Carolina because my father was in the military. I was the 3rd female to graduate in Computer Science from Brigham Young University in 1971. I have been blessed with a wonderful marriage, 4 children and 7 (at the moment) grandchildren. I was able to enjoy a career using my computer skills before and after raising my family. I am happy when I try to do my best and when I serve others. My interests include eating, traveling, creative thinking and writing, teaching, hiking, geocaching, growing green things, giving gifts, sunshine, dark chocolate, family and collecting mushrooms.

Why I am a Mormon

My father was an inactive Mormon and my mother was a nonmember Christian. I didn’t learn about the Mormon Church until I was a teenager. While living in France, our family was invited to attend a small military branch of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. My younger sister and I decided to give it a try. A wonderful little group of people made us feel welcomed and loved. The branch president prepared a list of scriptures for me to read about the importance of baptism and then I was asked if I wanted to be baptized. I pondered and prayed. The night before I needed to reply, I had a special dream about being held in the Savior’s arms. I was baptized and received the gift of the Holy Ghost when I was 14 years old. I had a lot to learn about the gospel. My testimony of its truthfulness has come step by step, by asking many questions and receiving answers, and through trials and blessings. I am a Mormon today because I know the gospel is THE plan for happiness in this life and the way, the truth and the light to guide me back to my heavenly home.

How I live my faith

I have had many opportunities to learn and grow and improve my faith and talents through activity in the LDS Church. I have loved being a teacher, mostly in the women’s organization of the Relief Society and have learned the importance of the guidance of the Holy Spirit. I know the value of prayer. I love the beauty and messages of hymns. I try to set a good example of discipleship for my family. Being optimistic and grateful are very important to me. I currently have the extraordinary opportunity of being a full time missionary with my husband in the England London South Mission. Our motto/goal is to “Be Good and Do Good.” We support the wonderful members, particularly the Young Single Adults, and the energetic, younger missionaries in the Poole Stake. We try to encourage those who are not active participants to return to warmth and light of the gospel. Being a missionary is a chance to share the things that mean so much to me and to show gratitude for all I have.
