Hi I'm Rachel VanOrman

I'm happily serving in the Charleston West Virginia Mission for 18 months. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in Bellevue, Washington. I am a very loving person. I was raised in the Church. I've been taught all my life that the Church and the Book of Mormon is true. I have a strong testimony that this church is true. I always felt inspired to serve my Heavenly Father. I wanted to serve Him by serving others. Right now I'm happily serving in the wonderful West Virginia Charleston Mission! :D Service is one of the most basic principles of this church. Service is a gift of love. Faith is more than a belief, it is also action. My grandma was a shining example of love, service, and faith. She always took care of people by loving and serving them. She taught my mom and I how to show love for others by serving them. Before I came out on my mission, I earned a Direct Transfer Associate's degree in Arts & Sciences. My favorite hobbies are drawing, watching movies, and listening to music. I love to spend time with my family and hang out with my friends.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born and raised in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I know with all of my heart that the gospel of Jesus Christ is true. I know that the Book of Mormon is true. I was baptized when I was 8 years old. I was taught at a young age to always pray and love Heavenly Father. During my teen years, my family and I entered a rough patch. All we had was each other and the church. So we started coming to church regularly and we became part of a wonderful, loving ward family (or congregation). I began reading the Book of Mormon when I was 16. Since then, I've read it front to back many times. As I've stayed active in church, I have felt myself be blessed and strengthened in so many ways. I've learned how to be a better daughter, sister, and friend. I feel myself learning how to become a great wife and mom someday. I'm learning how to become a better missionary everyday. I know that when I pray, I am able to speak to Heavenly Father. When I read the Book of Mormon, I know that I am able to feel Him speak to me because it is in this wonderful book that I have found answers to many of my prayers. I read the King James Version of the Bible, the Doctrine & Covenants, and the Pearl of Great Price. I know that we can find answers, love, and comfort in more than just one book. I know Heavenly Father loves all of His children so much and that He wants them to live with Him again someday. So why wouldn't He have us read more than one book about how to be like Him and how to be able to live with Him again? I bear my testimony by saying that I know that this church is true. The gospel of Jesus Christ is true. The gospel blesses people and families. The Book of Mormon is true. It testifies of Jesus Christ, just like the Bible. The world has a true living prophet whose name is President Thomas S. Monson. Heavenly Father speaks through him, just like He spoke through prophets during biblical times. I say this in the name of Jesus Christ, amen.

How I live my faith

I'm currently living my faith by serving full-time in the Charleston West Virginia Mission. I bear a part of my testimony everyday by saying that I know this church is true. I say my prayers everyday. I read the Book of Mormon everyday. I read the Bible (King James version), Doctrine & Covenants, and The Pearl of Great Price. I attend church every Sunday. I serve Heavenly Father as I serve others. Before I went on my mission, I have served in the church as a Ward Greeter, Nursery Teacher, and a Primary teacher. I served as Secretary for one of the youth programs by helping plan events and activities for teenage girls. I also served as a Visiting Teacher by going to other members homes and sharing a message from church. I loved being a Ward Greeter because I could pass out programs and welcome people as they arrived. When I was a Nursery and Primary teacher, I got to work with young children and I really loved doing that. The teaching callings helped me gain experience on how to work with people, listen, and teach simply. I feel incomplete if I don't say my prayers or read the Book of Mormon. It's like starting the day without asking Heavenly Father to bless me and help me through with whatever comes my way. I feel blessed and strengthened my I pray to Him and read the Book of Mormon. Prayer and scripture reading are the best ways to communicate with Him. When I pray to Him, I talk to Him. When I read the Book of Mormon, I feel Him speak to me. I have found answers to my prayers (on purpose or by accident) while reading the Book of Mormon many times. I'll keep living my faith by completing my whole 18 month mission. I'll continue staying active in church. I hope to marry my future husband in the temple and for us to be sealed together as a family for eternity. I hope that we'll be blessed with children and to be instruments in the hands of God for raising them. And then I hope my future husband and I can serve a mission together.
