Hi I'm Laur Barker

I grew up in a small town in Idaho, later had a career in Information Technology, and happy to say I’m a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in a small town in Southeastern Idaho. When I was 19, I served a mission for the “Mormon” church to the Gulf States for two years. I graduated from Brigham Young University with a degree in Computer Science. My Information Technology career spanned the punched card and paper tape era with computers that filled entire rooms to all the marvels of technology we have today. I have lived in Farmington, Utah, for the past 33 years. I am now retired and am blessed to be serving as a missionary with my wife in England. We are the proud parents of 4 children and 7 grandchildren.

Why I am a Mormon

Most of my ancestors were converts to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints from England in the mid 1800’s. They joined the church, immigrated to the United States, and followed Brigham Young west. I wanted my own testimony and received it through the Book of Mormon. As I studied it and prayed, I received a strong witness and I knew it had to be true. I felt this every time I read in it. This meant that Joseph Smith was a prophet called by God to restore the true church. If the Book of Mormon was true, then the rest was true. It is also a powerful second witness to the Bible that Jesus is the Christ and our Savior and Redeemer. I know that our Heavenly Father loves us and knows us each individually and wants us to be happy. I know that He hears and answers our prayers. He has given us His plan of happiness through the gospel of Jesus Christ that has been restored to the earth. When we live the commandments, we are the most happy and we can be with our families forever.

How I live my faith

We have always been family and missionary oriented. All of our children served full-time missions for the Mormon church. I give 10 per cent of my income to the Lord for tithing. I don’t smoke and I don’t drink alcohol or coffee. I have given many years of service to the church in various callings. I am now serving as a full-time missionary in the England London South Mission at my own expense. Missionaries are not paid for their service. We serve because we love the Lord and have been commanded to share His gospel.
