Hi I'm Jake

I'm a Pianist. I love Ultimate Frisbee, Running, and anything outdoors. I'm a Missionary in Louisville, Kentucky I'm A Mormon

About Me

Growing up I have always had this love of music. When I was little my sisters would always be playing a song and within a few minutes of them getting off, I would run over and start plucking away their songs. I took a little bit of lessons as a child...but was never great at reading music. I would ask my piano teacher to play the song for me so I knew what it sounded like, and then would just wait a week and play it as I heard it. After my parents caught on they forewarned my teachers to quit playing them for me. Music is a huge part of my life now and it brings me much closer to feeling the spirit! Currently I am serving in the Louisville Kentucky Mission, the GKLM!! When I received the call I was a little shocked because my father had served in Holland, along with his brother while my Grandma had been born and raised there. But Hey! The chicken here is better! So you can imagine my surprise when I read the letter! Nothing has brought me closer to my Savior than being on a mission! The people here are full of a love of Jesus Christ and I'm so glad to be a part of the work in bringing people to the Restored Gospel.

Why I am a Mormon

It just makes sense to me! Being raised in the Church I never had much of an opportunity or really a purpose to search for truth, it was always given to me. After about 2 weeks of reading the Book of Mormon I honestly desired to know if it was true. Taking the invitation in Moroni 10:3-5 I knelt down and asked God. To my surprise, the answer I got or, the lack thereof, was a little disconcerting. After a few weeks I had finally prayerfully contemplated my experience. I then came to the knowledge that I had already known the Church was true, and that it was now time for me to show God that I had known it all along.

How I live my faith

Matthew 10:39. In the service of God I know that the only thing I can actually give to him that is mine, is my free will. To be able to serve him and consecrate my efforts to him. As time goes on I have seen the blessings of taking those few steps into darkness and faithfully waiting for the witness. As I press on I remember to only trust god, and remember my nothingness. With God, all things are possible, and through his Atoning sacrifice I am compelled to endure.

What is faith?

For me, Faith revolves a lot around hope. I know that sometimes I say to myself "Ok... I'm not sure if I have Faith that this will work...because I can't know for certain that this will happen" -If i'm praying for something or having a struggle. But I can say with a surety "I Hope. I hope that things will turn out and I know that if my prayers are answered it is because God heard me." My hope is my faith. And I can never lose hope. Show more Show less
