Hi I'm Ali Washburn

I am a Utahn. I am an audiophile. I am a hairdresser. I am a reader. I am a Mormon.

About Me

I am currently serving as a missionary with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Texas Houston South Mission! I grew up in Utah. I have three incredible sisters, one brother-in-law, and the cutest nephew in the world. I went to Timpanogos High School, Southern Utah University, and Paul Mitchell the School in Provo. I love reading anything and everything. I love all music, though Indie/Alternative is my preference. I love singing. I love being outdoos- though not as much during the Houston summer. I love the opportunity to learn more about other people's culture and religions.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I know that the true Gospel of Jesus Christ had to be restored. There were precious truths lost after Christ was crucified, and the Apostles died or were killed. These precious truths are so crucial to our salvation. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the Church of Christ restored once again. I know that the Priesthood, or the authority to act in the name of God, was restored to the Earth, and because of this we are able to have important ordinances, like baptism, done so that we can come close to our Father in Heaven. I am a Mormon because The Book of Mormon is true, I have read it for myself and I have prayed to know if it is true. I know that anyone who is looking for the truth will find it as they read and study both the Book of Mormon and the Holy Bible. I know that Jesus Christ is our Saviour and Redeemer, and I know that Heavenly Father is literally our spiritual Father. He loves us, and we can show our love to Him by being obedient to the things that He has asked us to do.

How I live my faith

I believe that living your faith is a continual effort. I am far from perfect, but I know that as we try to emulate the life of the Savior, Jesus Christ, then we will be able to more fully say that we are living our religion. As I try to live my faith, I search for people to serve, for people to teach about this Gospel, and I try to help others try to come closer to Jesus Christ. I try to serve the Lord in all that I do, think, and say. I try to treat everyone as my brothers and sisters- children of our Father in Heaven.

Why don’t women hold the priesthood in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints? How do Mormon women lead in the Church?

Ali Washburn
The men have been chosen to hold the priesthood, yet it is not something that they can exercise in their own behalf, it is always done in the service of others. The Priesthood is the authority to act in the name of God here on earth. This power and authority blesses homes, families, congregations and non-members alike. Just as men have their specific role while here on the earth, women have been called with an equally significant role- to raise and nurture children. This is a divine gift that each woman is born with- one of the reasons why little girls love playing with baby dolls :) This calling by Heavenly Father is a sacred trust that He has entrusted to women to lead His special children while in the earthly home back to their heavenly home.
