Hi I'm Rachel

I'm a linguist, baker, musician, and a trivia nerd. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a linguistics major at Brigham Young University, and recently returned from a full-time mission in Bulgaria. I was born in Minnesota, but grew up in Iowa, and my love affair with the midwest continues from afar. I have a wide variety of interests, from cinema to singing. I enjoy being outdoors or working on any kind of creative project. I have a reading list that's miles long, and I'm always curious and excited to learn new things.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in the church, but I knew that simply being accustomed to a set of beliefs isn't enough--I needed to know for myself that this was true. As I visited the temple and read the Book of Mormon, I came to realize that there is immense peace and joy in this gospel, and all of it is provided by a loving and merciful Heavenly Father. I'm a Mormon because I need the strength and love the gospel provides, and I found that through the Book of Mormon.

How I live my faith

Many of my favorite church assignments have involved teaching--I've taught the gospel to six-year-old girls in Primary (children's Sunday school), and my university friends at BYU as a Relief Society (women's group) teacher. Since Jesus Christ is the master teacher, it's always humbling and educational to be put in that position, but the love and knowledge I've gained through those experiences has been profound. Having grown up in an area with relatively few Mormons, I'm always happy to answer people's questions and concerns about my faith. Whether they're sincerely seeking truth or just a bit curious, I'm glad to know they feel comfortable discussing these things with me. We learn as we ask questions and earnestly pursue the answers. In my life I have seen over and over again how we can all receive personal answers to our questions from a loving Father in Heaven. I love that in this gospel we are encouraged to learn and study in order to find our own answers and have a closer relationship with God.
