Hi I'm Joseph

I'm serving as a missionary in the California Fresno Mission. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Right now, I am serving as a full-time missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I'm learning Spanish. I also love playing basketball and piano when I can. Before my mission, I was a music geek-especially with jazz music. My primary instrument is the trumpet, but I also play piano. I went to college for one year as a music major before my mission. I ran cross country in high school and did 3D animation and modeling.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a Mormon because I have gained a testimony of the truthfulness of the gospel and of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I have prayed, read scriptures, talked with others, and exercised faith. I believe in the importance of exercising faith, because one won't learn of the truthfulness of the gospel and accept it without seeking it with real intent and hoping in it. I was raised in the gospel, but within the last year or two, I've gained my own testimony because I sought for it and stayed faithful. The Holy Ghost has testified to me of the truthfulness of the gospel. My testimony isn't perfect, or even as strong as I'd like it to be, but as I keep working at it, it will continue to grow stronger. The Book of Mormon is true. Heavenly Father, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost are real. They are three separate beings, one in purpose. Jesus Christ atoned for our sins, making it possible for us to repent and return to live with Heavenly Father. They love us very much. Joseph Smith was a true prophet and played a big role in restoring the Church to the earth. We have a living prophet today who receives revelation in our behalf to benefit us. The gospel of Jesus Christ contains all the answers we need to return back to Heavenly Father and receive exaltation, and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints contains the fullness of that gospel. This means everything to me.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by participating in church activities and meetings. I play piano for church meetings regularly, and I do things when I am asked to by my leaders. I fast (not eating for a specific purpose) once a month because it is a commandment, brings blessings, and helps me be more in tune to spiritual promptings and feelings. I live my faith day-to-day. I read out of the Book of Mormon each day because it is true and accurate scripture and the word of God. I pray multiple times a day. I try to learn what God wants me to do and then do it. I'm not perfect, but as long as we keep trying and moving forward, God is happy with us.

How can I know Mormonism is true?

In Moroni 10:4-5 (toward the end of the Book of Mormon), Moroni, an ancient prophet, tells us how we can gain knowledge of the truthfulness of the Book of Mormon, as well as how we can "know the truth of all things." The way we can gain this knowledge is through the Holy Ghost. First, pray to Heavenly Father. Be sincere, seeking to know the truth and being open and willing to receive whatever Heavenly Father wants you to know and do. It can be hard to understand what the Holy Ghost is telling you, it often is for me. Sometimes we don't receive an answer right away. But the key is to keep trying. Keep praying, keep reading the scriptures, keep exercising faith. Ponder the gospel and the things you are learning. If you are sincere and really seek the truth, Heavenly Father will let you know by the power of the Holy Ghost that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (nicknamed Mormonism) is the true church.
