Hi I'm Jourdon

I was born and raised in Oklahoma. I am a student at OU and I love to play basketball. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I have 3 brothers and one little sister. I have grown up in a family that loves basketball. I love and play just about every sport and enjoy watching just about anything sports related. I am a student at the University of Oklahoma and I plan on going into medical school. I have just recently have been called on a 2 year mission to Vitoria Brazil and I report to the Brazil MTC on July 3rd, 2013. I enjoy spending time with my family and friends. I'm an Eagle Scout and one of my hobbies is going camping. One of my favorite quotes that I try to live by is Michael Jordan: "I've missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I've lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I've been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I've failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed." We are never perfect and it is okay to fail and make mistakes because that is how we can learn and grow.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a mormon because of the joy and happiness that it brings to my life. This gospel has so much to offer to each and every person. As I have grown up in the gospel and lived its' teachings my life has been so blessed. I have read the Book of Mormon over and over again and every time I read, I have a feeling of warmth and comfort. There was a point in my life where I had to step back and think to myself and ask, is this book really true? I needed to gain my own testimony and knowledge of its truthfulness so I did what the Book of Mormon says in Moroni chapter 10: 3-7 when it says to ask God whether these things you read are true. I needed to know for myself if it was true. So after prayerfully reading and studying the scriptures with an open mind I knelt by my bed to ask Heavenly Father if it was true. I received an answer that was so simple yet so amazing! It was just a subtle calm warming assurance. I felt so good inside and I knew then that the Book of Mormon was true as well as the Bible. I know that Joseph Smith was a true prophet that restored Christ's gospel, through Him. I know that this church is true. I know that Jesus Christ came to the earth to atone for our sins so that we can be forgiven and return to live with our Father in heaven. I know that we have a prophet on the Earth today who leads and guides us through revelation from God. Just as God talked to prophets of old such as Moses and Abraham, he still talks to the prophet, Thomas S. Monson today. I am so thankful for the gospel and all that it teaches me. I truly do not know where my life would be at this point without the gospel. The church is true and I invite everyone who has yet to know this to read the Book of Mormon, and to not take my word for it, but find out for yourself whether it is true. I can promise that this gospel will bring joy and happiness to you and your family. The church is true.

How I live my faith

I try to live my faith by example. I have just recently been called to serve a mission in Vitoria Brazil and I leave July 3, 2013. I have not had very many callings in the church, but I have learned that some of the best missionary work we can do prior to serving an official two year mission is through example and service. In being a part of our church youth group we do a lot of service to the community. I have been apart of service projects where we have cleaned up parks and cemeteries, volunteered at Food Banks, and painted fences around playgrounds in the community. Another thing our church is involved in is scouts. I am an Eagle Scout and I have done a lot of service through the Eagle Scout program. For my Eagle project I planted new trees, shrubs, and other plants on the playground of a newly built elementary school. All of this service through the church is how I live my faith. I have been blessed so much by what this church has to offer that I feel like I need to give back to the community and share the joy and knowledge that have been given to me by being apart of this gospel.
