Hi I'm Gary Hodgman

I grew up in Ogden and Salt Lake City. Got married and moved to San Diego. Got converted to the church. I am a Mormon

About Me

First of all I am a husband to a wonderful wife, Kathy. I am a father of seven married children with 24 grandchildren and three on the way. I graduated from UCLA with an Masters Degree in Electrical Engineer, and, spent the next 35 years in the computer business. I retired and took on remodeling. Remodeling my own house with the goal to do everything myself. I took class in construction and architecture at Salt Lake Community College. My wife and I are leaving tomorrow to serve a full time mission in Guatemala.

Why I am a Mormon

In our early 30's, we had two young children and we were not doing well in our marriage. We decided to take a job in San Diego California. We became friends with a Mormon neighbor and our six year old daughter became friends with their child. Our friends wanted to take our daughter to a church children's program. We did not want her to go while were we not in the church. So, we called the local Mormon leader called a Bishop. He came over. We had many complaints about Mormons but told him we wanted to be around people that supported families. This Bishop brought a wonderful spirit in to our home that we had not experienced before. He brought us a Book of Mormon and we read it and believed it. We went to church and had the most joyous experience of our lives. Our Heavenly Father blessed us with such a spirit the going to church was like going to heaven! Because of our activity in the Mormon church our marriage began to repair. A year after we started going to church we decided to have our marriage sealed in the temple for time and all eternity. We had our two little children sealed to us in the temple. Then, we had five more wonderful children that were born under the temple covenant so they are automatically sealed to us. We are all working hard in obey God's commandments so that we can be together in Heaven. We have had our ups and downs in life. We lost a grandchild at 7 years old. However, because of our faith in Jesus Christ we have gotten through the bad times and overall have had and continue to have a wonderful life.

How I live my faith

I have served in the Church with many different calling. I spent many years of my time in church leadership helping and guiding young men. I have served five years in a local mission with Spanish speaking members helping them deal with medical and financial issues. I have been blessed to visit members each month with our home teaching program. My companions have been one of my sons. We had eight families many miles apart when we lived in Scotland. We loved the families and tried to bring them uplifting messages.
