Hi I'm Dunn

I'm an outdoor enthusiast, physics phanatic, and a former ranger at Philmont Scout Ranch. I'm a Mormon!

About Me

I love being outside. My favorite childhood memories are of my dad taking me out on hikes in the Cascade mountain range, although I admit that at the time the only reason I consented was the allure of a handful of Haribo "Goomies" somewhere along the hike. Today, thanks to many outings with my father, I consider myself an experienced long distance back-packer, a mediocre mountaineer, and a novice rock climber. I love being outside and I love teaching people about what I love to do. Last summer I worked at Philmont Scout Ranch as a ranger and got to do that all summer long! Currently I am serving as a full time missionary in the NY-NYC South Mandarin speaking mission. Before I came on my mission, I enjoyed completing my freshman year of college as a declared physics major. I absolutely love physics and look forward to learning more about it when I return.

Why I am a Mormon

I am Mormon because the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints makes me happy. I am never happier than when I am living by its principles. My testimony, or set of core beliefs, is founded on what we call the Plan of Salvation, or God's Plan of Happiness. The knowledge that you and I can live with our families forever is absolutely fantastic. It is beautiful! It makes sense. It gets rid of, "till death do we part," which, to me, has never sounded like the kind of "happily ever after" I would want. Eternity sounds WAY better to me! What is WAY cool is that the gospel gets better than that. Jesus Christ came to earth to teach us and to die for us so that we could be saved through his infinite grace and mercy. It is because of His atonement that you and I can repent of our sins, be made perfect in Christ, and improve ourselves. It is because Christ can make us perfect through his infinite perfection that we are able to return and live in the presence of our Heavenly Father. I am so grateful for my Savior, and I know that if the atonement were not real I would not be the kind of man I am today, or the man I plan on being tomorrow. The eternal perspective that is provided by understanding the gospel of Jesus Christs brings peace and clarity to my life. I am a member of the LDS church because it is the only church on earth that teaches the fully restored gospel of Jesus Christ. I am a Mormon because it brings me peace. I am a Mormon because it makes me happy.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by trying my hardest everyday to be the best I can be. Part of doing my best involves serving in my community and in my church. I tried to serve the best I could even before I started my missionary service. Throughout my time as a member of the church I have been called to a few specific service roles. For example, every month I used to "home-teach" the same four or five members to make sure they were doing okay and to give them a spiritual message. Home-teaching is a big part of how our Church tries to make sure everybody who needs help is getting help. It is way cool! Also, about once a year, along with every other member of the church, I get asked to speak on a gospel topic for fifteen minutes during our service hour in church on Sunday. Some of my favorite things to talk about are faith, Jesus Christ, the Plan of Salvation, and obedience. I love sharing what I have to say about the gospel and hearing what others have to teach me! As a full time missionary I spend everyday inviting others to come unto Christ. I do this by sharing my testimony on the importance of faith in Jesus Christ and in His restored gospel. I try to emulate Christ's love for mankind by diligently serving the people in New York in every way I can.

Why do Mormon missionaries proselyte?

Mormom missionaries proselyte because they know the true and full gospel of Jesus Christ has once again been restored to the earth. They want to help as many people as they can know about it, so that they too can enjoy the blessings that come from having the restored gospel in their lives. The message is so important that they know it is worth devoting 18 months to two years of their young lives to letting others know about it. Show more Show less
