Hi I'm Liahona

I'm 19 and in August I will leave my home in Hawaii to serve a mission in Botswana, South Africa, because I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was born on Thanksgiving of 1993. I'm the oldest of my 9 siblings with the exception of my older half sister in Arizona.Through the years I have moved more than often with my family of 11, I know what it's like to start over. It can be hard but there's a great positive side, I've always had plenty of opportunities to start fresh and enjoy new adventures with the great blessing of having so many amazing people be a part of my life. I'm as white as can be but come with a Hawaiian Heritage. My great-grandmother who is half Korean, half Hawaiian, has kept the Hawaiian culture and traditions alive in my family. I enjoy very much the tradition of the Hula, I perform and dance with my sisters, cousins and aunts. I was raised in the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day saints, I was home-schooled, I love music and play the Piano, I look up to courageous women of virtue and integrity from the past and the present, and I hope I can live up to being one myself. Now that I'm 19 I'm about to start my greatest adventure yet, I have been preparing for a mission. I was just called to serve in the Botswana, Gaborone mission and will report to the South Africa Missionary Training Center in August. When Pres. Monson made the mission announcement last October, it changed my life, before, nothing seemed right for my life, I felt stuck and couldn't find my path, but then the opportunity to serve became available and my whole life just fell into place.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into this gospel and I am forever thankful! I didn't need to search far and wide to find the truth, it was given to me freely. As my parents have taught me the principals of the gospel I have come to know that they are true. The spirit testifies it to me everyday. The lord has taught me line upon line, as I learn I move forward and step by step I'm learning more and more about who I am and my purpose here. This gospel has set me free! Free of fear and worries, free of sin, because although I make mistakes, the Lords teaches me how to learn from them and move on, how to overcome them. The world is filled with chaos and confusion but the gospel brings understanding, peace and hope for a bright future. Faith always overcomes fear, and I don't have to walk in darkness. I know that I'm a part of something greater then this world. I know that I am of royal birth, that I am a part of a great family. I know that as I turn my life to the lord he molds me and helps me to become who I was born to be. I know that I have a heavenly Father who loves me and that I will return to him someday, having fought a good fight and endured to the end. I will do all that is required of me in this life, that I may live up to my Divine nature, and become who I was born to be and someday I hope to be just like my Heavenly mother, a queen to my husband and to inherit all that my father has. It may seem like a fairytale, but you know what's amazing, it is!!! And with God there is always a Happily Ever After.

How I live my faith

My faith is not just something I have on Sunday, it's my way of life, and it effects what I do everyday. I live my faith by doing my best to remember my Savior and do as he would do if he were in my place, I try to be his hands here on the earth and remember to live the principals I learn such as faith, hope, and charity. I am very involved in church, and do my best to fulfill any callings I receive. As a youth I served in my young women's presidency's, I've served as President, counselor and secretary. I attended Seminary as a youth and served in the class presidency. When I turned 17 I served as a Pianist for the the Primary (our children's group) and I absolutely loved it. I know that God qualifies who he calls and so I have always excepted any call to serve, even if it's just been a last minute substitute teacher. Heavenly Father knows me and loves me, he knows my strengths and my weaknesses, he knows what experiences I need to grow and improve, and through service to others that's what I have been able to do. All the opportunities I've had to serve in the Lords Kingdom have given me learning experiences and have helped me develop skills that I know will help me throughout my life. Everything I'm learning now is preparing me for something greater.
