Hi I'm Laura

I have grown up in Utah, I am studying to be a elementary school teacher, I love trying new things, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I love trying new foods! Especially foods from different cultures with different flavor combinations. I love the outdoors, hiking and camping is this beautiful world made for us is a great pastime. I am majoring in Elementary education, I love working with kids and I enjoy teaching them but I love what they can teach me as well. I love hanging out with my friends and family, we love watching movies, coloring in coloring books, going on walks, eating ice cream or just talking to one other about anything and everything. I also enjoy it learning new things, about the world around me, like fun facts about animals, different cultures, different ideas and points of view.

Why I am a Mormon

I have had many experiences that have taught me that God loves all of his children, he always gives us the things that we need in our lives. I know that when I pray and talk to my Heavenly Father with respect, honesty, and the willingness to accept his will, and then I wait and listen he always answers. He may not give us what we are looking for right at that moment, but if we have the courage to talk to God and lean on Christ we will have peace in our lives. There is no other way to find lasting peace. By putting God first in my life he has become my best friend and first confident. Hard times in my life are made simple and by leaning on Christ I can find the answers when the Lord sees fit. I know that God hears and answers prayers if we are willing to put in the effort. I also know that he desires for us to pray to him. He loves all of his children more than we can conprehend in this life and he wants us to know him and have a good relationship with him. Trust in his way and he will direct your path as he has direct mine. Life isn't perfect but through prayer and relying on Christ we can all have happiness God desires us to have during trials.

How I live my faith

I love helping others and it is a great blessing for me to help others with needs they may have. I am currently a librarian for the church building I am in. I enjoy meeting the teachers who need materials and meeting others that I wouldn't have otherwise meet. I also visit two women once a month, where my roommate and I are able to get to know them, become friends with them, learn from them and help and serve them whenever needed. Doing this has been a great experience that has brought me closer to God, and has helped me feel the love he has for his children. I have also been called to serve God for 18 months on a mission to Portland, Oregon. I will begin serving the Lord on June 5th and I am so blessed with this opportunity to serve God and bring the people of Oregon closer to Christ.

What is the difference between attending church and the temple?

Laura
Attending church is how God's children are able to come together to learn about him. The most important thing we do in church is take the sacrament. The sacrament is the way we renew our baptizimal covenants, meaning that each time we take the sacrament we have the opportunity to take Christ's name upon us and be an example of Christ in our everyday lives. It also means that we can be foregiven for our sins. This need needs to happen weekly. The temple is a building dedicated to God and is a way for us to learn his eternal plan for us. This building is sacred and is also known as the House of the Lord. Because of this sacred nature God requires us to do certain things before we enter the temple like, being worthy, being baptized, and currently keeping all covenants that we have already made with him. What is the priesthood?

Laura
The Priesthood is the authority given to man to act in God's name. I like to think of the priesthood as God's stamp of approval. It gives man the permission to perform sacred ordinances necessary for salvation, like baptism. If I signed a check for a million Dollars, but it was my mom's checkbook my signature wouldn't mean anything. Having the Priesthood is like having the permission from God to sign that checkbook in his name, since he is not currently on the earth. This permission has to be given by God, and the priesthood power makes it possible to make promises or covenants with God that couldn't be made without his authority and permission.
