Hi I'm Natalie

I'm a hard working college student whose studying recreational therapy and loves to sing. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I come from an LDS family of four girls and one boy. My sisters are my best friends! There's no one else I'd rather spend time with. I've been studying Recreational Therapy for the past two years, and am loving every moment of it! I'm very passionate about singing. In high school and middle school I sang in a city wide choir and traveled internationally with my choir and had a lot of rich experiences getting to learn about other cultures. I'm a total travel bug! I've been to over half the states in the US and have been to over 13 different countries. I grew up in the United States, but I also spent a year living in Belgium. I love hiking, biking, and backpacking and love spending time with friends.

Why I am a Mormon

I think there's a misconception that comes with growing up in an LDS family. Some people think that the only reason you are Mormon is because you were raised that way and your parents don't give you a choice. It may be that way for some people, but for me I can full heartily say that the reason I follow the teachings of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is because I know that Christ Himself restored His church on this earth. The way I came to know this was by being obedient to those teachings. It wasn't until I exercise the faith to make those personal choice for myself that I started seeing a change in my life. Another way I know of it's truthfulness is through the Book of Mormon. I grew up being taught that it was a book of God, and I always believed it. It wasn't until someone asked me if I had read the book all the way through that really made me go out and find for myself whether or not it was as true as I had been taught. I decided then to read the Book of Mormon cover to cover and pray to ask God if the book was right. After I read the book of Mormon I prayed and didn't feel any different. I started to panic wondering if I was going to get an answer or not. I grew up knowing it was right, and I still knew it was right, so I didn't know why I wasn't receiving the answer I wanted. It was then that a feeling of peace came over me, then a thought entered my heart which confirmed that I didn't need an answer at the end of reading the book, I was receiving an answer everyday I read it and I knew with all my heart that it was.

How I live my faith

Right now I am teaching the 12 and 13 year old girls and loving every moment of it. It was only two years ago that I was in the youth program. I loved it with all my heart! It provided me with leaders and teachers and friends that I could look up to and helped me stay strong in my faith and standards. It is such a blessing that I am now able to come back as an adult and give to these girls what meant most to me in my youth. They have such sweet spirits and I am touched everyday by their kindness and love for all those around them. I am also preparing to serve a mission and will be leaving for the Missionary training center this next month. I am so blessed to have the opportunity to dedicate my life to the Lord for a year and a half.

What is a “testimony” that Mormons speak of?

Natalie
If you've ever watched a TV commercial, you know that eventually you'll see some everyday person talk about how that product worked for them. Similarly, when we tell someone that we have a "testimony", we are saying, "I have tried this for myself. I have found out that it works. I know it works. It has made such a difference that I would suggest it to anyone who asked about it." It is our way of showing our conviction and our love for what we have learned and experience. It is how we share our spiritual experience with others. Show more Show less
