Hi I'm Emily

I grew up on the east coast. I'm a musician studying Music Education at the University of Utah. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Hi! My name is Emily and I'm currently a Music Education student at the University of Utah. I am a vocalist and I play the flute. I've been doing music for as long as I can remember so I'm absolutely enjoying my studies in college (: I live in Utah but I am originally from Virginia and North Carolina. My family moved here when I was 13. Besides music I also enjoy cooking, playing basketball and soccer, and running.

Why I am a Mormon

I've been a member of this church my whole life because I was born into a family where my parents decided to join when they were first married. In fact, my parents were originally Catholic but stumbled upon the Book of Mormon, which is another revelation from god given to us to help us in this life. When my parents read this book they felt that this could only be the word of god and that it was true so they decided to join the church. My father said he was a little disappointed to find out that it had truth because he was never one for organized religion and wasn't much of a church goer himself haha Since, I was born into a family of converts my conversion to this gospel and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints began when I was 8 years old right before I decided to get baptized. Before I got baptized I really wanted to make sure I knew this church was true and I wasn't just getting baptized because my parents wanted it. My family would read the Book of Mormon every night and when we had finished it, at the end in Moroni 10:5 it describes that if you want to know if this book is true to ask god with a sincere heart whether or not it be true. As a young child, I got on my knees with the rest of my family surrounding me and we prayed to know. Immediately after the prayer I felt a burning sensation in my heart and I was in enveloped with the spirit and I knew that this was my heavenly father's way of telling me, "Yes. Emily, this book is from me, and it is true." Tears fell down my face, and I turned to my family for a loving embrace. That moment as a child, I will never forget for the rest of my life. I know this church is undoubtedly the true church upon the face of this earth and Jesus Christ leads and guides it today. This gospel has been such a blessing in my life and the atonement of Jesus Christ is real and has brought piece to my heart. I know that we are sons and daughters of a Heavenly Father that loves us and if we pray to him he will help us.

How I live my faith

In the church I am part of a Young Single Adult Ward. So, I go to church with only people of my age bracket. Its a very unique sanction of the church that allows young people to meet new people, make new friends, and receive leadership opportunities that they normal wouldn't have until they were older. Currently, I serve as the Ward Choir Director in the church. I absolutely love this calling and leadership opportunity because it allows me to share my talents in music to provide an atmosphere of sacredness and serenity in church. Music has a powerful impact upon the heart and can allow a church meeting to be enriched with such a sweet spirit. The best way I know how to express my faith in Jesus Christ and his teachings is through music.
