Hi I'm Martha

I am the mother of 6 children and the grandmother of 13, a singer and actress. I am a Mormon .

About Me

I was named after my grandmother who was named after her grandmother and so on back to Marta, a dame in the Danish opera. All these Marthas were blessed with exceptional singing voices. The name and the voice are gifts I treasure. I grew up in Southern California and from the time I was 5 I began singing solos in churches and events throughout Los Angeles and vicinity. Our home was always filled with music. It seemed there were always groups of people gathered around our piano rehearsing or just singing for sheer pleasure. When I was 16 my family moved to Thailand. I love the Thai people, their culture, customs and country. My family really never left. Thailand became our second home. Shortly after we moved there, President Gordon B. Hinckley (then a new apostle) came to dedicate the country for missionary work. Meeting him and witnessing the blessing of that special land was a pivotal moment in my life. I am now a grandma who is absolutely in love with my children and grandchildren and count my blessings every day.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born in the church. I am a seventh generation member of the church. I was carefully taught righteous principles during my youth and studied and prayed to know for myself what is true. It seems I have always known that the church is true and that my Heavenly Father loves me, that Jesus was born on this earth, taught us how we should live, and suffered and died so that I can repent of my sins and return to my Father in Heaven. There have been times I questioned and doubted even, but after seeking for answers, was always reassured that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Days Saints held the complete gospel of Jesus Christ. I have learned that true joy and peace, strength and wisdom, come from living the principles of this church that Jesus taught. .

How I live my faith

I currently serve as a counselor in the Relief Society presidency in my area. The Relief Society is the women's organization of the Church, dedicated to seeking out and helping those in need, strengthening families and homes, and increasing faith and personal righteousness. It is the largest women's organization in the world and I am humbled and excited to be a member. I also am a Visiting Teacher, which means that I look after the welfare of three women. I visit with them often and whenever they have a need or concern, they call and I come! Prior to working with the women, I was a teacher in the nursery at our church. I took care of children under the age of three so their parents could attend church classes.
