Hi I'm Ellyn

I grew up in California. I love to the summer time and I plan on going to art school. I'm a Mormon!

About Me

I went to Brigham Young University Idaho and am going to study psychology and art. I am serving my mission in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania right now. I love anything Mixed Martial Arts and I have three dogs. I believe that family, friends and summertime is the best combination. I love art and food. San Francisco is one of my favorite places to visit, but I plan on travelling the whole world someday soon! Oh, and I'm a Mormon :)

Why I am a Mormon

I was born and raised into this church, but have had many moments where I wondered if it was true, and if God loved me, let alone if He was even there. I pondered much, prayed often and had a full desire to know what was true. After long questioning and hardships, the feelings of peace and assurance were overwhelming. It is so nice to have something and Someone to lean on, especially in this increasingly hectic and scary world. I have faith that Christ and Heavenly Father will come again, and that they have their hands outstretched. It just takes a little work on our part... but the hardest things in this life often become ever more sweeter in the long run if we just try :)

How I live my faith

I try to live by bettering myself every day. I do so by the examples of Jesus Christ. If I find myself being selfish or judgmental, I try remember the Lord and what He did for me. I know that He is cheering me on and wants the absolute best for me. He wants me to be happy. I try to live my faith by being the best teacher in my church as I can, and I do that by teaching the women of my church every other Sunday. I am trying to be the best missionary I can by realizing I'm not perfect, but understanding that through Christ, I will someday be perfect, with Him helping with the difference.

Why is family so important to Mormons?

Family is so important to us because it is the strongest and most central social unit in this world. In a family we can receive the most happiness and gain strong relationships. A good home based in the Gospel of Jesus Christ can be a refuge from the storm of life. We will become closer as we have a common goal of trying each day to better ourselves through the Savior. Though there are many families and homes where peace and trust aren't prevalent, we can choose this day to make your family and ultimately our lives better. As we strive to help our families become stronger through Jesus Christ, we will notice the blessings that He has given us, and we will become more like Him, not only in the home or within our families, but in every aspect of our lives. In whom should we have faith?

As Mormons, we should strive to have faith in the Lord Jesus Christ every day. Faith in Christ leads us to ask questions (pray), find answers (read the scriptures), feel peace from those answers (Holy Ghost) and ultimately change our lives (be converted to the gospel of Jesus Christ). I know that it can be difficult, but the Lord is merciful towards His children. He wants us to find happiness and to come back under His shelter. To have faith is to have His power within us. His power is the Holy Ghost who guides, protects and strengthens us... what a wonderful gift! :) Faith is also an action word. When we pray or go to church or read the scriptures, we are showing our faith to Heavenly Father. Faith is a continual process for our whole lives. It isn't easy, but its a whole lot easier than living without the guidance of the Father. Show more Show less
