Hi I'm Erica Van Slooten

Raised a Southerner. Travel and music are my passions. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm currently a fourth year student, studying Communication Disorders at Brigham University. My friends and family are my number ones. I love to have a good quality time, especially involving anything with travel or music. I was raised in the south and will forever claim myself as a southerner. Although, I do I enjoy living in the west. I also enjoy the outdoors, skiing, playing piano, and singing. I'm about to leave on an 18 month long mission to serve the people of Bacolod, Philippines. The gospel is my core.

Why I am a Mormon

Often times in life we are faced with challenges and we even make mistakes. The Gospel of Jesus Christ, which I live by as a Mormon, is what gives me hope because through my Savior, Jesus Christ, I am able to better myself through him by repentance and through being willing to change through his help. Being Mormon provides a solid pathway of righteousness through living basic and strengthening principles. Part of the foundation of being Mormon is the family. One of the best parts of being a Mormon is knowing that I can live with my family forever if I follow the Savior's plan. Although I cannot see the big picture all of the time, I know that I have a loving Heavenly Father and Savior who are constantly aware of my needs and desires, and that as long as I submit my will to Heavenly Father's, I know the best is always yet to come. The Book of Mormon, the keystone of my religion, is true and I have received witness of its truthfulness. I know that all who read from it can feel the same thing. The gospel is the Plan of Happiness. Through living it's principles I have no doubt and have a strong testimony that anyone can lead a happy life, even through the worst of times. It is always the times where I am keeping the commandments and am living the gospel that I am happiest.

How I live my faith

Through knowledge of the Gospel through being Mormon, I have come to know for myself that I have a loving Heavenly Father and a Savior, Jesus Christ, who are both aware of me and all of his children. How I live my faith is showing love to other through service. We are taught in this gospel that service is one of the best ways to come closer to others and our Savior, Jesus Christ. Through the organization of the Mormon church, I have the opportunity to attend church each Sunday, and often activities during the week, which enhances my relationship with my family and friends who share the same faith as me. Heavenly Father and our Savior wants each of us to be happy, and living the Gospel is what makes me the happiest.
