Hi I'm Loren

I'm a husband, father, religious educator, and bishop. And I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was born in southeastern Arizona as one of five children. I grew up playing basketball and collecting comic books and soda cans. I married the love of my life and we have two beautiful and active children. I teach religion courses for the Church at an Institute of Religion and have the opportunity to serve as the bishop of my congregation.

Why I am a Mormon

Although I was born to Mormon parents and taught the tenets of the Mormon faith from an early age, that is not why I have chosen to be a member of this Church. As a teenager, I struggled with a number of the teachings of the Church and was not actively participating in worship services or in my church youth group. One night, when I was 18, I was laying in bed and feeling unhappy and hopeless. I turned and saw my copy of the Book of Mormon and I felt a strong, unexplainable desire to open it and read. As I did, I read a story about a group of friends who had been converted to the true teachings of Jesus Christ and had changed from their evil ways. This group of friends were rejoicing in the Lord's mercy, that He would reach out to them in love instead of consigning them to an awful eternal destruction. That struck a chord with me and I immediately felt peace and warmth in my whole body. I knew the Lord was communicating with me through this book of scripture. After continued study in the Book of Mormon and the Bible, and praying to know if the Book of Mormon was true, I felt those same peaceful, warm feelings as an answer to my prayer. Because I learned from the Lord that the Book of Mormon was true, then I also learned that Jesus was the Savior and that Joseph Smith, the translator of the Book of Mormon was a true prophet. That was twenty-four years ago and my faith continues to grow stronger.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by doing my best to help others. As a father, I seek to teach my family how to be good citizens and to follow the teachings of Jesus Christ. As the bishop of my congregation, I have the opportunity to serve others and help to strengthen the faith of those who need it. I don't always do it right, but I try my best to live the teachings found in the New Testament and other scriptures as taught by Jesus and His prophets.
