Hi I'm Spencer Lindsay

I love liberty, singing, and feeling happy every day, and I am a Mormon.

About Me

I’m a college undergrad who loves to learn. I want to become a scholar of the Constitution and in other areas of political science. I look forward to being a husband and father someday and to contributing positively to my community and country. I try daily to be happy by looking for the good and choosing to not dwell on the bad. I don’t always have control over what happens, but I have control over my expectations. And that has been a huge part of my happiness. I sing all the time. I also enjoy acting and have been in two community theater groups. My other hobbies include swing dancing and creative writing. I also enjoy guessing the winners during the NCAA basketball tournament and playing online fantasy baseball. Critical thinking is also one of my favorite pastimes.

Why I am a Mormon

Christ taught in John that the Holy Ghost will “guide you into all truth.” And as a boy in my teens, I wanted that truth. I wanted to know the truth about the Book of Mormon. In the Book of Mormon there is a promise written by a prophet named Moroni. He promised that if we will read the Book of Mormon, ponder the messages it contains, and then ask God sincerely with faith that He will answer, that we will know that it is true by the power of the Holy Ghost. I had to take that promise. And as I made reading the Book of Mormon and praying about it a part of my life, I began to feel more of the fruits of the Spirit in my life, like peace, love, joy, gentleness, patience, and faith, and the Spirit confirmed my impressions. My testimony of the Book of Mormon has come by small and simple steps. I know that it is true. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the restored church of Jesus Christ. And the reason I am happy is because I am a part of it.

How I live my faith

Whether something simple like opening a door for someone or visiting someone who needs to be cheered up, serving like the Savior brings me joy. One of the responsibilities I have in my congregation is to help lead the Sunday School program, especially in reaching out to members of the church who may feel left out or who may not come often. Christ taught that, like a shepherd does all he can for his sheep, we should do all we can to care for and reach out to those who could use our love and support. Being able to serve in this way has helped me learn that lesson and to feel gratitude.

What is the Book of Mormon?

Spencer Lindsay
The Book of Mormon and the Bible are sacred scripture. The Bible was written anciently by prophets in the Holy Land and contains prophecies and revelations about Jesus Christ, before, during, and after His mortal ministry. Similarly, the Book of Mormon was also written anciently by prophets, but those prophets lived in the Americas. The Bible and Book of Mormon both testify that Jesus is the Christ, that He did suffer and die for us, and that through His grace we may return to live with God again. Joseph Smith was a modern prophet who translated The Book of Mormon from ancient records. The existence of this ancient record is evidence that God continues to guide our lives. All who read and sincerely pray about the Book of Mormon can know by the Holy Ghost that it is true. I know that promise is true. Show more Show less
