Hi I'm Paul Norris

I enjoy many sports. I particularly enjoy cycling long distances down country lanes. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I enjoy all types of sports & outdoor activities. Over the years I have played such sports as basketball, football, volleyball, table tennis, badminton, tennis and squash. I have also enjoyed potholing, rock climbing, hiking and climbing mountains. I enjoy a challenge & some notable achievements were ascending to the top of Mont Blanc, climbing the 3 peaks (Ben Nevis, Snowden & Scafell Pyke) in a day and free diving a 26 foot long sump (passage submerged in water) in Swildons Hole a cave under the Mendip hills. More recently my main activities are squash, hiking with my wife and cycling. I particularly enjoy the challenge of cycling long distances through country lanes & recently cycled over 300 km (about 190 miles) around the centre of England on an audax event starting in Cirencester. At the age of 14, even though in those days there were no computers in my home or school I decided that I wanted to work with computers. I studied a computer based course at university & have worked for many years in the IT industry. My wife and I have raised 4 children. They are all grown up now and 2 of them are married. We enjoy activities with them & with our granddaughter.

Why I am a Mormon

My parents joined the Mormon church when I was young and so I was brought up in that faith. As a teenager I questioned the beliefs that I had been brought up with and investigated other beliefs and ways of living. However, I found out for myself that living the principles that I had been taught as a youth did bring the promised results. I found out that God does live & that He answers prayers. I also found out that living the principles taught by Christ brought me more happiness & purpose in life. Therefore I made the decision to commit myself to be a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (the actual name of the Mormon church) and at the age of twenty spent 2 years teaching & testifying about the Saviour & His church.

How I live my faith

I try to start each day with scripture study & prayer to get a good perspective. My challenge is to try to be the best that I can each day and to incorporate Christs teachings into my daily life. To look for opportunities to be kind & helpful to those I come in contact with and to make a positive contribution at home, at work and in the community. We have no paid ministry in the church so I have also had many opportunities over the years to serve others in the church. This can involve teaching lessons, giving sermons, organising activities, counselling, visiting people in their homes and a variety of administrative tasks which are needed for the smooth running of the church. My abilities have been increased as I have accepted assignments to do things that I may not have otherwise been involved with. For example we organise annual camps for our youth aged from 12 to 18 years old. Having had significant responsibility on some of those camps & spending a week under canvas has brought many memorable experiences.
