Hi I'm James

I'm from Utah, I'm a teacher, and a lifelong learner. I'm a mormon.

About Me

I'm a student at Brigham Young University studying psychology. I'm fascinated by learning and teaching, which is why the gospel is so fascinating to me. It's about lifelong learning and becoming. Growing up my family moved a lot. From Utah to Texas to Alabama I've seen quite about of what the United States has to offer, well, the Southern United States. I served a two year mission in Sacramento, California and absolutely loved it. During my time there I really learned how incredible people are. We each have such great potential, and the Gospel of Jesus Christ is the way that we reach our potential. I try to see people not as they are, but as they can become.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in the church and as a result have always been surrounded by the teachings of Christ. However, it really wasn't until a few years ago that I really started to think about it for myself. I've realized that one of the reasons that I am a Mormon is just that it makes so much sense! It makes sense to me that there is a loving Heavenly Father. It makes sense that he would choose to communicate with His children whenver possible. It makes sense that He would desire to us to return to live with HIm and that He would give us all the help we need. Another reason I believe and live the way that I do is because I have experienced it. The Gospel is not meant to simply be understood. It is meant to be lived. And as we live the teachings of Christ, we change and become like Him. As I've lived the teachings of Christ to the best of my ability, I've seen how my life has changed and I've come to know that the things which I believe, the things which I love, and the things which I live have all come from God.

How I live my faith

Each day I try to be a little bit better than I was the day before. The gospel has so much to offer, and God has such incredible expectations for us. In fact, it can be rather overwhelming to try and think of it all at once. However, while God ultimately expects our perfection, that perfection comes one corrected mistake at a time. That's one of the many reasons Christ died for us - so that we would have every opportunity we need to overcome our trials and our weaknesses. So, most simply I live my faith by trying each day to become a little bit more like my Savior. I've found that this is accomplished in the little things. I make every effort to begin and end each day with meaningful prayer. I make sure that every day includes studying the scriptures. I look for opportunities to serve others and help those who are struggling. At work I prepare missionaries to go forth and spread the great news of the Gospel to all the world.
