Hi I'm Rachel

I grew up in Houston, TX. I am a mom and a grad student. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am the only girl in a family of 6 kids. I have always loved math and science. I graduated with a degree in economics and I'm almost done with my master's in Public Policy. I hope to be able to use my degree to support the increasing data processing needs of local governments and help them make good decisions. I believe local government can have important impacts on our day-to-day lives, good and bad. I have a 3 and a 1/2 year old son and a little boy on the way. He will arrive around the same time I graduate with my master's degree. I am married and my husband is a computer programmer.

Why I am a Mormon

The simplest reason I am a Mormon is that it makes me happy. When I choose to live the lifestyle set forth by the gospel of Jesus Christ, I am happy. I want to teach my children how to make the choices that will give them that same joy. I know we have a Father in heaven and I believe that through his Son, Jesus Christ, and prophets on the earth, He established this church to teach His children. Like any father, He wants also wants us to find joy and His plan is the path.

How I live my faith

Currently I am part of the leadership of the women's organization in the LDS church. My main responsibility is to help the women plan and carry out activities that will help them develop in various aspects of their lives. We have activities centered around family, homemaking, exercise, spiritual development, service and even just getting to know the other LDS women in our community. Many of the women in my area are young and newly married or starting families. It is helpful to have a community of support during these important transitions.
