Hi I'm Kendra Dawson

College student. Food Enthusiast. Iowa Native. And I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was born and raised in Iowa and am currently in my fourth year at Brigham Young University studying Sociology. I find joy in making people laugh and also enjoy good food, being outside, and cats. The cards I've been dealt have had me battling mental illness my whole life but God is good and I have a lot to be grateful for. There ya have it.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into the gospel of this church but as I grew I have gained and continue to strengthen my own testimony. I have read the Book of Mormon and it truly is another Testament of Jesus Christ. One of the things that has helped me gain a testimony is praying daily. I know Heavenly Father listens and answers prayers. I know that He loves each and every one of us despite our flaws and that He wants us to return to Him. The Spirit has comforted me when I need it and fills me when I hear the truth. The love Heavenly Father has for me and the blessings He has given me have strengthened me as I've spent my life battling depression, anxiety, and borderline personality disorder. Having mental illness in no way detracts from my testimony of Jesus Christ but rather adds to it. I'm not perfect but the gospel of Jesus Christ is. It has filled me with light when I've only felt darkness around and within me and lets me know that it is okay to feel the way I do. I am a Mormon by choice and it's the best choice I've ever made.

How I live my faith

The best way I've found to live my faith is by the little everyday actions; praying, reading and applying scriptures, respecting others and myself, making choices that keep me in tune with the Spirit. The gospel has guided me to set standards for myself that will ensure my relationship with God is the best it can be. Keeping in touch with Heavenly Father through prayer has helped me know that I am in good standing with Him and that He loves me and all those I encounter. I live my faith by being the best me I can be.

What is the Word of Wisdom that Mormons talk about?

Kendra Dawson
The Word of Wisdom is a way that we take care of our bodies which are gifts from our Heavenly Father. We take care of our bodies to show the respect and gratitude we have for that gift. We do not use drugs or drink alcohol, coffee, or tea. We strive to be physically healthy and to have good habits that will keep us that way. Show more Show less
