Hi I'm Carly Upton

I'm a daughter, a sister, a friend, and a follower of Christ. I love my Savior. I love my family. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Hi I'm Carly. I am a convert to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I was born and raised in Southern California. My life revolves around music. I love playing sports especially volley ball, however I'm not too great at it. I am a sophomore in college and have a desire to start a career as a journalist. I served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Chile Santiago West Mission. I have a passion for service and love to meet new people.

Why I am a Mormon

I joined the Church the summer before my Senior year of high school. Before I joined I was quite skeptical about religion. I was never truly convinced of a higher power. As I started to take the missionary discussions, something was different. They invited me to pray, something I had been very reluctant to do. They also invited me to read the Book of Mormon, something I had never heard good things about. As stubborn as I was, I saw something in those missionaries that I had never seen before. I felt something I had never felt before; the Holy Spirit. The Spirit softened my heart and I knew right then that if there was a God, this was His church. As a read the Book of Mormon I knew that this Church was true. I was baptized that same month and have felt the love of Christ more in my life than ever before. I am a Mormon because I love my Savior. I am a Mormon because I feel the love of God as I read the Book of Mormon. I am a Mormon because I believe in doing temple work for the dead. I am a Mormon because I believe we lived with our Father in Heaven before we came to this Earth. I am a Mormon because I believe that families can be together forever. I am a Mormon because I believe in the Atonement of Jesus Christ and His plan of Salvation. I am a Mormon because this Gospel brings me true and eternal joy. I am a Mormon because Heavenly Father has testified to me through the Holy Spirit that this is His church. I know it. I live it. I love it.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by remembering Jesus Christ in all that I do. I try my hardest to serve my fellow men in any way I can. Since I joined the church I have been called to a few positions. My senior year of high school I was called to serve in my Stake's Youth Committee where we help plan events, dances, and service activities for all the youth in our area. When I went up to college I was called to be a teacher for our Sunday school class. This has given me the unique opportunity to learn more about my Savior and grow closer to Him. I also served in a special calling as a missionary in the Chile Santiago West mission. Despite the title of each calling (or church position) they all have the same purpose. That purpose is to be a representative of Jesus Christ and serve God the best we can. Every day I look forward to serving my Savior. He has given me everything and I owe Him the little bit of service I can give.

What is being a Mormon like?

Carly Upton
Being a Mormon is fun. Before I joined the church I suffered a lot with self worth and my purpose in this life. Becoming a member of Christ's restored church and making a commitment to follow Him, has made me happy. I feel a special purpose for my life and I look forward to facing each new day. Deciding to follow Christ has given me a renewed light. Being a Mormon is peaceful. Aside from some rude remarks from strangers and worldly rumors, being a Mormon is very peaceful. I feel the Spirit more. I feel closer to my Heavenly Father. I have a deeper understanding of His love for me and His unique plan for me. Being a Mormon is work. Because following Christ requires dedication. Scripture study, daily prayer, church attendance, service projects, and temple work: its all to become like and learn more about Him. We believe in dedicating our lives to Him because He literally saved ours. What a small price to pay (what a privilege to pay) for eternal life. Being a Mormon is the best. Show more Show less
