Hi I'm Melissa Hawkes

I was born and raised in Idaho. Dance is my passion. I'm a mormon.

About Me

I'm a college student at BYU-Idaho not sure what I want to major in. I love to learn about medicine and how to help care for others, but I love to dance, and can't picture life without it. You can put on any type of music and I'm immediately energized and can't stop. I also love to sing, so putting the two together is my idea of having fun! I come from a large family, and my family is one of the most important things to me. Getting together with both immediate and extended family members brings the most joy into my life. They give me so much support and help me through everything. I will be serving the Lord in the Texas Houston South Mission for the next 18 months.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I was raised in this church and my family are members, but more importantly, I am a Mormon because I choose to be. I choose to follow our church leaders, choose to follow Jesus Christ's example, and choose to serve the Lord. I don't have a big conversion story or one specific moment when everything became clear and I decided to change my life around, but I have had defining moments in my life that have built my testimony. I know that when I finished reading The Book of Mormon and I prayed for myself to know it was true, I felt in my heart it was true. I had the strongest feeling that I knew the church is true. This has happened several times, and each time it comes with a warm and peaceful affirmation that I was doing the right thing. Although I feel like my conversion isn't anything spectacular, it is special to me because I know for myself this is the only true church. My Father in Heaven has blessed me greatly by sending me to such a wonderful family, allowing me to be raised knowing who I am and my purpose here on this earth. I know that as we make mistakes, we can be forgiven. Jesus Christ makes the difference in our lives so we can be forgiven. I know we have a true prophet on the earth today. I also have a testimony that if I pray to our Heavenly Father, he will hear and answer them. And I will hear his answers through the Holy Spirit. I can receive my own revelation and guidance throughout my life by the Spirit. I love our Savior Jesus Christ. I can't wait to devote and give 18 months to him and Heavenly Father, spreading the good news that Christ lives and he loves us.

How I live my faith

I try to serve others as much as I can whether it is through my calling from the ward, or my calling to serve as a full-time missionary. I have found that as I carry out these callings with true intent, I feel happier as I serve others and focus on their lives, and not so much on my own life. It is when I come to know more of our Savior Jesus Christ and see just a glimpse of his true purpose, which is to serve all of us. Christ has served all of us more than we can comprehend, and to me it is showing gratitude of that service by serving my fellow men. I think one of the best ways to live my faith is to actually live it. I could say I was a Mormon, but not do anything about it. Or I can say I am, and truly mean it. If others can look at me and say, "She must be a Mormon," then I know that I am doing what's right. The example you set is something that everyone can see. They don't have to know you really well to know you're a Mormon, but they can see it in your eyes, or in your actions, your language, your behavior. That is one of my main goals, to be an example to those I meet and to represent Jesus Christ in all of my actions. One of the greatest parts of this Gospel is that there are so many opportunities to serve others. Among those opportunities is visiting teaching, which is when the women of the church are assigned to visit another woman for spiritual, physical, and emotional uplifting. It helps so much to have someone there that supports you and that you can talk with. Along with blessing the people we visit, The Lord also blesses our lives where we need it the most.

Who wrote the Book of Mormon?

Melissa Hawkes
The Book of Mormon is like the Bible in the way that it is comprised of ancient prophet's writings that testify of Jesus Christ. But it's different because it is of different prophets that lived in the American Continent. It's named after a Prophet Mormon who compiled all the books into one. The official title is: The Book of Mormon Another Testament of Jesus Christ. That is exactly what it is. It testifies of Christ and his appearing to the people in the American Continent after His Resurrection. All of these teachings support the Bible. After finishing The Book of Mormon, you can pray that it is true, and it is promised that the Holy Ghost will be a witness that it is true. Show more Show less
