Hi I'm Hayden

I am a geographer. I teach life skills to youth. I am a generalist. I am a Mormon!

About Me

I love music. I have a growing collection of film scores and soundtracks. I sing, play guitar and write (songs, poetry, and I'm working on 2 novels). I am a self proclaimed generalist. I enjoy learning new skills. I love to create things. I design board games as a hobby, I love photography, there's just something magical and invigorating about taking photos of people and places. I still secretly enjoy Lego. I have an MA in Town and regional planning, and I have taught 'Health and Life Skills' to youth age 10-18 for the past 6 years. I am a father of two. I can speak English and German, with a little Welsh and French. I like deep conversations and talking about off the wall topics.

Why I am a Mormon

Growing up in England, a lot of my friends assumed that the reason I am Mormon, was due to being born to parents who are members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (nicknamed Mormons). Although, I'm sure it made learning about the gospel easier, it was not the reason I am a Mormon today. The reason I am a Mormon is because I have seen first hand the impact that the teachings of Jesus Christ can have in the lives of people. I have witnessed events and coincidences line up to provide an answer to a prayer. I've seen friends recover from life threatening illness faster than anyone thought possible. I have seen a child born into this world and watched her take her first breaths. I've seen the love of people towards those less fortunate than themselves and seen the sacrifices of time and talents made without request. I have felt the peace that came from personal prayer in my own times of need. I have traveled to many countries and attended church meetings in various languages, and always felt as though I was amongst family. I have seen how despite my many imperfections, that there is a way forward, there is repentance, forgiveness, and peace. These are just some of the reasons I am a Mormon.

How I live my faith

For as long as I can remember I have had callings to work with youth and kids. I think I've taught youth from age 3 all the way up to 18, and I currently teach the 11-12 year olds, and love every minute. I am also a Satellite/technology assistant, and help record and display special/scheduled broadcast events, especially General conference (a semi annual conference broadcast from Utah and comprising of speakers from church leadership). I love making friends and talking with people of other faiths, especially when we can find common beliefs and values. I try to live my life in such a way that I can help others, and learn from my mistakes. I love music, and singing in church and at times as part of the choir makes me feel closer to people and God.
