Hi I'm John

I grew up in Glasgow, Scotland. As a child, I knew God was there. When I was 20 years old I joined the Mormon church.

About Me

I am married and have 4 children (3 boys and 1 girl). I enjoy exercise and like to go swimming and running. I did not do very well at school but later went to University as a mature student, gaining an Honours Degree when I was 41 years old.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up as a Catholic and had many unanswered questions about life. I met the Mormon missionaries when I was 20 years old. I was dating my girlfriend at the time and we were both taught the Gospel of Jesus Christ from the Mormon missionaries. I felt that what they were teaching was true and they challenged us to read the Book of Mormon. I prayed to God, my Heavenly Father, to know if the Book of Mormon was true and I had an overwhelming feeling of peace, that confirmed to me, that the Book of Mormon was true. Both me and my girlfriend joined the church in April 1988 and we later got married in the Church. We have now been married now for 25 years. Jesus' teachings have really helped me raise my family.

How I live my faith

I currently serve in the Mormon church as the Bishop - which is like the Minister / Pastor of a group of Mormons. I have served as the Bishop for over 6 years now. Serving as the Bishop is unpaid and I fit this responsibility into my life, along side family commitments and my full time job. My wife's a Mormon too and she supports me in these responsibilities. She knows that there are times when I need to visit members of the church who are in need. I think this unpaid service helping others is like what Christ did, when He was on the earth. I feel good when I serve others.
