Hi I'm Delmar

I grew up in Idaho in the United States and I am a Mormon.

About Me

I came from a family of 7 children. I married at age 30 and had three daughters but then got a divorce after 11-1/2 years. I later remarried and have been married for 22 years. My current wife and I, between us, have 5 children, 16 grand children, and 4 great grand children. I enjoy the out-of-doors. I like to water ski, snowmobile, go camping, read, and spend time with my family. I worked for 30 years at a US Department of Energy research site, but have been retired for 3 years.

Why I am a Mormon

I enjoy being a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints ( commonly called the Mormon church because of our accepting the Book of Mormon as another witness and testament of Jesus Christ). The truths taught by our church answer the questions: 1) Where did we come from? 2) Why are we here on this earth? and 3) Where do we go after we die? The gospel gives me peace of mind because I know our Father in Heaven is in charge and loves each one of us. I know that each of us are a child of our Father in Heaven. I know that Jesus Christ loved each of us so much that He was willing to suffer for our sins and gave his life on the cross for us. I know that the Savior gave his life and was resurrected 3 days later and because of that, every person who has ever lived will be resurrected and live forever. Also, I know that obedience to God's commandments is the only way to truly be happy and that when we obey the Lord's commandments, he blesses us. I have made mistakes just like everybody else, but I know if I truly repent I can be forgiven and my sins are washed away by the atoning blood of Christ. I know that our Father in Heaven hears and answers prayers when we ask sincerely and in faith. I really enjoy my membership in this church and cannot imagine not having this gospel in my life. I enjoy reading the Book of Mormon and know that it is the Word of God, that it contains the account of God's dealings with the ancient inhabitants of the American continent, and that it was translated from ancient records by Joseph Smith by the gift and power of God.

How I live my faith

I have served in my local Mormon congregation as a youth leader, including helping with the scouting program. I have also served as a home teacher which means I visit several families each month to check up on their welfare, to encourage them to love one another and to faithfully serve our Savior Jesus Christ, and to assist them with any of their needs. I have also served in leadership positions in my local congregation. I have assisted with fund raising projects for the regional Boy Scouts of America program.

Why was a Restoration of the Gospel needed? Haven’t we always had the Bible?

When Christ was on the earth, he called and ordained 12 Apostles to lead his church after he ascended into heaven. He gave them his priesthood which is the authority to do his work, to lead his church, and ordain other men to hold the priesthood. After the Apostles were killed there was no longer anybody to lead the church and ordain others to the priesthood. Many false teachings were started and many truths of the gospel were lost. The Lord removed his priesthood authority and his church from the earth. Without priesthood authority, the church could no longer function. There were still many sincere people on the earth and some truth but the true church and teachings of Christ were gone. His priesthood authority was also gone. Paul the Apostle prophesied that there would be a "restitution of all things" in Acts 3. This restitution began when a young man named Joseph Smith went into a grove of trees to pray and was visited by our Father in Heaven and his son Jesus Christ. He was later visited by heavenly messengers and was given the holy priesthood by John the Baptist and three of Christ's Apostles, Peter, James, and John. With the priesthood again on the earth, Christ reorganized his church through Joseph Smith. Just as it states in the bible in the book of Amos 3: 7, "Surely the Lord God will do nothing except he revealeth his word unto his servants the prophets." I testify that there is a living Prophet on the earth today who receives revelation and instructions from God. Show more Show less
